Rooney vs Simpson

Hi Guys.
I want buy a new brush but I need you help me, actually I have a Kent BK4, Edwin Jagger BBB with chubby handle and Omega 652 PBB.

What do you think is the best deal for me?

SIMPSON (Vulfix) THE DUKE D3 IN "BEST BADGER" 46mm Loft, 23mm Knot

ROONEY MODEL:3 SIZE:1 IN "SUPER SILVERTIP" 55mm Loft, 22mm Knot.

By which votes.

Judging by the recent threads, I would say Rooney. Simpsons seems to have terrible quality control, again, judging by recent threads.

Agreed. I am just about ready to pick up a Rooney 3/1 Special in Faux Tortoise. If you are concerned about the longer loft, pick one up at Vintage Blades. Jim orders his Rooneys with a slightly shorter loft than is standard. That's where I'll be getting mine from.

The problem is that Jim does not send to México City.:mad3:

I owned this exact brush briefly before selling it for the Simpsons Chubby 1 Super. I purchased both from www.westcoastshaving.com and both were excellent brushes. During the brief period I owned the D3 Best, I believe it lost a couple of hairs the first day. I've owned the Chubby 1 Super for a few weeks now and it's only lost about 3 hairs (the first time I used it). As far as I can tell, it's a quality brush with no problems.

Jim is an excellent vendor but he has stated that his brushes are the same loft as other vendors. Rooney provides the same brush to everyone. In some cases other vendors have just not updated their website to show Rooney current specs.

The Simpsons look nicer but as has been said, there seem to be quality control issues with them. If I buy one soon it'll be a Rooney.

I have no experience with Simpsons but have owned or held five or six different Rooneys (down to two now) and all were of unbeatable quality. By this I mean great materials, great, consistent build quality, *lots* of badger hair crammed into whatever knot size the brush might be and lastly great looks.

And I second the above comment about brush loft. All vendors will tell you that on a hand-made brush this can vary a bit from one brush (or batch of brushes) to the next. As said above, Rooney at one point reduced the loft on a number of their brushes but not all vendors kept their descriptions up to date. I actually returned one Rooney because the loft was way shorter than the description, but that was early on in my brush acquiring experience and I now see that the shorter loft can actually be an advantage. For my most recent purchase I deliberately chose a style with a shorter loft.

One of the things that makes me doubt buying the right rooney was the loft that provides executive-shaving and you say that if I buy that no problem will be equal to those of Jim ???

Is an excellent notice.:w00t:

executive-shaving don´t provide the measurements of the brush to want buy and don´t respond to mi question of which are these but as shown in the pic I had determined that 55mm of loft.

+1

I purchased a Rooney 3/1 from Vintage Blades seven months ago and it has a 47mm loft. I suggest you call Jim and he'll tell you the lofts of his available brushes.

Two months ago I bought a Simpson Commodore X3 in best. It hasn't shed a hair and is a beautiful brush comparable in quality to my Rooney 3/1. The Rooney Super hair is a little springier than the Simpson Best, but is not as soft. I like both brushes.
