Rooney Style 3 vs. Edwin Jagger BBB help please!

Hello gentlemen! I've never spent much time on the Brush forum but now that I'm looking into getting a new brush I've come to you guys for some suggestions.

I currently have an Edwin Jagger Best Badger Brush and, while I love it, I'm looking to upgrade. Lately I've been using a lot of soaps and have mostly been face lathering. I've seen the Rooney Style 3 recommended a lot as well as the Style 1 for soaps.

I feel like the handle on the Style 3 would be a bit more comfortable. I'm looking for something quite a bit more dense than the Edwin Jagger but still good for soaps/face lathering.

What would you guys recommend? I'd also like some suggestions as to which size would be best as well. Thanks a lot guys! :001_smile

what other attributes are you looking for? eg Scrubby, soft, stiff or firm backbone?

I've been thru a lot of trial and error on brushes. In my case, my preference is very different from what most people prefer. For example, I have very sensitive skin, and tend to shy away from overly dense/scrubby brushes.

If density is your main goal, Shavemac D01 and D01 two band make excellent face lather brushes. If you were looking to spend a bit less money the Simpson Classic and Dukes are very highly regarded as face lather brushes.

Rooney makes good brushes too, and the size ones are a great value. I think the style one handle is more comfortable for me as it is wider. Both have short handles (in my opinion, but I do have bigger hands), so the girth helps me get a better grip. It is the kind of the same difference as a Gillette Slim and a Gillette fatboy, both are similar, but the proportions are just changed. There is also a 4mm difference in loft between the two. I know that might not sound like much, but it can make a big change to how big a brush feels. Just another factor to keep in mind.

I have a Rooney 3/1. I love it. I wanted to get the best brush I possibly could, and like you said, the Rooney's get great reviews. At the prices vintageblades listed, I paid the extra $25 or so, and was able to get it in silvertip.

I face lather, mostly creams, but I do have a few soaps, and it works well for both.
