What's new

Rooney Heritage

Finally Jim at Vintage Blades got in a new stock of Rooney Heritage brushes. I received my new Stubby 2XL in today's mail and am anxiously awaiting the first shave tomorrow AM. Jim has informed me that the shave with this brush one month from now will be significantly better that the first few shaves, and I will take that into consideration. Soto has encouraged me to invest in this brush, although he has endorsed the 3XL which I thought was a bit too large for me. I have also become a big fan of Castle Forbes Lime and Lavendar creams. They are luxurious.

So if anyone has been looking to purchase one of these, Jim has them now.

I enjoyed my very first shaves with this brush - I own both the 2XL and 3XL.

With the numbers of brushes in my collection, for me to get one month of shaves with one of my 2XL brushes before it breaks in will take me into mid of the year 2017, since I rotate my brushes and only shave 3-4 times a week.

Rooney's seem to take a good month to really break in.
I've owned a few over the years and enjoyed every one of them.
Nice choice!

My 3XL is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I had one and sold it a couple of months ago in a moment of temporary insanity! And I don't know of a better shaving cream than Castle Forbes.

I have all three XL sizes and I think your choice of the 2XL is perfect. I love big brushes and while the 3XL is superb, the 2 is one of the most versatile brushes I own and IMO has the perfect mix of characteristics.

Glad to hear this brush will get better...I purchased a new 2XL from VB, received it yesterday and used it this morning. After reading sooooo many rave reviews I was expecting something beyond special. I must admit that I was a bit disappointed with its first use. The brush is truly beautiful, love the size, the weight, the density, the fan loft, etc...but compared to my 2 band Simpson Chubbies and Manchurian the tips did not feel as soft. Don't get me wrong, the feel on the face is fantastic but was hoping to feel those gel like tips and softness everyone talks about. Look forward to breaking in this bad boy.

Have a regular 2XL I've had for a while and just bought the 2XL in Jade as well. Shaved with it today! For me personally the 2XL is a better performer than my CH2 in best and CH2 in 2-band.

Seeing as you just got this brush yesterday, I'm going to bet your brush has the newer heritage hair that does not have the gel-tips people rave about. Check to see if your brush dries "crusty." Hair feels really hard and crusty-like when you rub it. It's a weird feeling. If it feels like other 2-band knots, it's the newer hair. I would actually argue that this hair is better than the gel-like hair of old as it's equally soft, but better performer. I have all three in the series, 2 with the older hair and my 2XL with the newer batch. I love them all and enjoy them all.

Give your brush at least a dozen uses before it really starts to shine. Rooneys are the best brushes in my opinion. Shavemac comes a close second to me.

You guys are a terrible influence. This is why I try not to visit B&B too often! Oh, sure. It starts with a shaving soap thread. Then a YouTube view or two of Mantic... and a casual stroll through the Shaving Brush forum. That insidious seed of SBAD kicks in... and now I just spent a few hundred bucks with Jim for a Stubby 2XL.

I came to shrink my den, not grow it. Enablers, the lot of you! =)

You said it! I, too, am in a holding patten. No more emails to Lee. No more envying Claus. No more following up on sales emails. I've got to stop...I've got to stop...I've got to sttttoppppp!:a7:

I just used my 1xl for the first time today. The tips of this brush are amazing. Gel-like is a perfect description. After a good soak in warm water the tips turn translucent. face lathering feels almost like rubbing an oiled microfiber cloth or something, it feels like one huge soft pillow.

Comparing the tips to my silvertip grade A from TGN I would have to say that they are both very comparable. However, the tips of the TGN are whiter, not saying they're treated but I can tell you the Rooney tips are not bleached white, they're an off-white which tells me they're more than likely natural. That and the sheer density of this brush and I can honestly say the brush is worth the money.

So I'm not sure what the heritage hair was like before, but I can tell you it is phenomenal right now from my experience.

On second look, the tips of the Rooney seem to be much more white. Theyre still both phenomenal, but just wanted to clear that up.
