Rooney finest R.I.P?

Has the Rooney finest died a death yet? I have just looked at the CS website and there is absolutely nothing in the Rooney finest section and I belive at the end CS was the only vendor to carry them.

If that is the end of new finest's then I'm gutted for all those who'll never get to try one as my 1/2 is quite simply the best brush I own even justifying it's earth shattering price tag :scared:! So what about you guys other than an update as to the lines' vitals what do the owners of other finest are they the G.O.A.T of brushes? or is there something missing in my brush line (any subtle enabling for a HMW would be appreciated)?

Regards Grant

I have the Rooney Finest 1/2 and think it is an excellent brush.

I may slightly prefer my Custom Shavemac D01 2 band extreme flat top to it, but for me it starts and ends at these 2 brushes. I rarely reach for anything else.

And indeed, it does look like Rooney Finests are not coming back, though I have no proof in this but classicshaving seemed to imply this with their recent sale.

You may find what you want here. I got my 1/2 from them just a few weeks ago. It's my only brush and maybe that is going to be just fine.

Thanks mate, unfortunately I don't think that VB ships to the UK so even if I was in the market for a finest right now VB wouldn't be the ideal vendor even if there were finests availible. Happily great as the 1/2 is I don't think I could justify a duplicate so I needn't torture myself about shipping from VB.

So you like the shavemac better...hmm I have been pondering a Horn Handled custom extreme flat top d01 short loft, would you recommend I went that route? Bearing in mind I was one of the lucky 6 who got a last of G3, can anyone opine on this, do I need the shavemac?

I own the eagle and have owned 30+ brushes. My shavemac D01 2-band is a 24mm knot with 42-43mm loft extreme flat top (yes I like them short and scrubby). Amazing density and backbone and the silkiest soft tips of any brush I own. I think it is the best knot of any I've ever tried.

Can't comment on the D01 3-band, but that brush is in my future.

The production of Rooney Finest ended in 2008 when the hair became to difficult to source. The CS sale only happened when they re-organized the warehouse and found a supply of forgotten Finest brushes. That was most likely the last anyone will see of these as new stock.

No you are not - to my knowledge vintageblades never carried the finest knots.

There is a 1/2 Finest on BST right now though.

Vintage Blades did carry finest knots, but they sold out quite a while back. Either late last year or early this year iirc.

I stand corrected as shown (why I put the disclaimer to my knowledge :tongue_sm)

Xillion how is that 1/1 treating you? To me the 1/2 is just so much better.

So far it has been an outstanding brush. I love the backbone. It has been tearing up my Cade puck allowing me to make great lather with ease. At first the tips were a bit rough but they are breaking in nicely. I have used it or palm lathered with it everyday since receiving it from you. The handle is a perfect fit, even for my big hands. It is fast becoming one of my favorites, it just may become my go to for a good scrub.
My current got to scrubber is my super short D01.

I love my 1/2 Finest as well. I found that it releases the lather much more easily that the 1/1. And it also has great backbone for such a high lofted brush. Also, it stays very warm in my DB 1.5. I find that the 1/1 gets kind of lost in such a large bowl, but it is very easy to build lather with all of that space.

VintageBlades says it's whole Heritage range is filled with a new 2 band Super Silvertip knot. Has anyone bought and compared it to the ol' Rooney Finest hair?

The price doesn't compare, but I'm wondering out loud.

I wondered if it would break in some. I only used it like 3 times. Have been using my 1/2 almost everyday since receiving it and it is breaking in nicely. I've just found that I like larger brushes (despite my thinking on my initial SBAD that I liked small brushes. Go Figure).

Agree, they are amazing brushes. Unfortunately I believe that they either will not be sold again for some time, or may be gone forever. I have spoken to Jim @ VB and he has said he really doesn't know if he'll ever be able to get them in again.

I appreciate the tip o' the cap, sir! Took the words right out of my mouth!

But yeah, unfortunately the new "two-band" Heritage brushes don't hold a candle to the old Finest ones.
