Rooney 1/1....too small??

I wanted to bring up this topic because I hear countless members hear reply that they think it is "too small" for them so they sell or trade it away.
My question is, to those of you who think it too small....

Are you referring to the handle of the brush, or to the knot size, or what??
It is, in fact, a 22mm knot and I would not consider that too small. So I am thinking that it must be the handle that is being considered as too small.
What's the verdict??

Regards,
Bob

I think in most cases people are referring to the handle. I have a 1/2 which is a bit larger and it is still borderline too small for my hand.

I have one and I feel every part of the brush is a bit smaller than I'd like. At some point I'll move up to a 1/2.

Paul,
But what was small about it...the handle, the knot size, or what?

Both

The 22 mm and under knot crowd like the small knotted brushes, but for me they just aren't my cup of tea. It really is a small knot. I use it sometimes, and it works great. However, I love a bigger knot and higher loft...

I had a 1/2 and traded it for a 1/1 that I will have next weekend. If it is too small, guess what I am going to try to find...

I have a 1/2 and can't see how anyone would describe these as small brushes. The knot is 2mm bigger than the 1/1, but Rooney stuff these things like they're trying to get the whole Badger in there. I cannot open my brush and see to the bottom, it's that dense. When dry, and pressed flat against my cheek, it engulfs most of one side of my face. Even going down to 22mm on the 1/1, it will still be a good sized brush.

The good thing about the size 1 handles is they are stubby and fat, so very easy to grip. The handle on the 1/2 is only slightly bigger than the 1/1, but I have average hands and it fits just right in the there, and my fingers grip the base of the knot; it's a really good size, but I doubt I'd have a problem with a 1/1 either.

I think you need to have pretty large hands not to get on with these. Preference for knot and loft are variable. But again, some people must like massive brushes to go bigger.

I like the size of the 1/1 knot... perfect for soaps (plus beautiful bloom due to dense, high quality knot). Again, perfect for loading soaps out of a bowl (brush doesn't go all over) and face lathering. The handle is a touch too small, but is very pleasing to the eye for me, giving it that well balanced look. Since I don't bowl lather, the slightly short handle isn't an issue.

Just had my first shave with the 3/1 super silvertip I received today from Vintage Blades. I think I found my perfect brush. I like a little bigger handle.

The 1/1 knot and loft is much to my liking, but I find the handle to be too small and awkward in my hands...

:lol::lol:

Well stated (and I love the imagery). I wholeheartedly agree. I have a 2/1 and when I first saw it I thought "that'll be way to small", but after it bloomed and broke in it grew to epic proportions!

(pictured: rooney 1/1 finest) i think a Rooney 1/1.5 would be perfect :001_rolle

i still think that while a 1/1 may seem small, in practice, it is near perfect.
