Just hone it. Outside the case. Hone it just like a regular straight. Good steel, hones up nicely. The in-case honing setup does not do it justice. It is a pretty good shaver when you dial it in right.
I got an edge from Bayamontate on my Kami that was so sharp it would shave me while I was asleep.
I think Hitemfrank put lapping film in the rolls case and worked his way through the different grits

I'd rather it did a worse job but functioned within its own parameters than be laser sharp but never worked in the case...

if you hone it outside the case you can still hone it in the case if you decide you dont want it sharp any more lol! Honing outside does not prevent future honing in the case.

Bayamontate is going to have a look at my blade. Very kind of him to do. Thank you for the heads up, Gamma. IDK why, but that rolls blade spooked me to deal with. Maybe the training wheels straight on a stick will inspire me to get some films and try the whole straight deal again.
KCB, your Rolls is done. It was a lot of fun to hone, you will be very pleased. I went with a different progression, one that I feel let the Sheffield steel keep its characteristics but more aggressive than usual.
