Rollerball suggestions?

I have a MB Starwalker ballpoint in rubber and platinum and I like the way it writes and grips. I think I want to get a roller ball to compliment it, staying around the $200 price point. I did like my Visconti Van Gogh, and I think I prematurely sold my Opera Club because of the eight sidedness but it was FP. I dont know if it makes a practical experience on which refill is gonna dry out quickest or writes the best, but I am sure there are those here who have a practicallity to my choices. I do like the look of the cracked ice on the Visconti Opera limited editions, so I am not limited to just black. I have a gold filled Cross but it is the thin one and it does not feel as great for extended writing sessions.

Thoughts or advice on what to get or look for?

I've seen the silver and the gun metal versions of the Visconti Metropolis decently discounted of late, and that one has always struck me as a nice pen. Given your enjoyment of the rubber grip, perhaps the Caran d'Ache Metrub would suit, as well, provided you could find one at your price point. Enjoy the search!

Yeah, with the Gordion knots that Bryant has? He wants $199 for it
I can get a Black Davina for $300 and a red Springs Davina for that

I personally like the non-knotted version better, but YMMV. The Divina is definitely a nice looking pen, as well. (And without the issues with easy denting that metropolis users have reported.) Still, I love the metropolis, especially in gun metal. I can't explain it. If I make it to the DC show this year, it'll be high on my list.

Save your money. Get a Pilot G2.

While this has been dismissed out of hand, the point raised is a good one.

I've tried many high end rollerballs, but have not purchased one for the simple reason that most of the refills just plain suck. I have a MB roller that sits unused simply because I can't get a refill (MB or aftermarket) that I like as much as Pilot VBall or Uniball Jetstream and I'll be darned if I'll shell out good money for a pen that doesn't write as well as a $3 office supply store pen.

Of the better rollers I've tried, the Lamy has one of the best refills. The other option is to get a pen that will take a Parker gel refill.

I personally don't get spending a ton of money on ball points or rollers (FPs, within reason, yes), but if you want a high end roller, just make sure you get one that takes a refill that you like and then stock up - as roller refills seem to have a very short lifespan when compared with ball points.

Happy shopping.

The Uniball Jetstream is my favorite pen, though the refills seem to be non-existant. It is a very smooth writer with permanent ink.

Are you wanting something that writes really well or something with style. You can make a Pilot G2 Pro pen use the Mont Blanc Refills just by cutting a little bit off the refill. Now you have a pen for $15 that writes like a $200 pen.

Or if you would like something with a little more style you can always get a knock off for $16-20. Sure they are not the real deal but for the fraction of the cost you get a nice looking pen and more $ to spend on shave stuff :D

That's my knock off, it writes like a dream and it's hefty (I could take down a buffalo with it if I had to) Here's a link with a bunch of knock off, hey at least they admit it. Honesty in deception...:tongue_sm (I have not used this site yet, so I can not tell you how the service is)

I've made many rollerball pens from kits that use Hauser refills and I think they write very nicely. I assume you are looking for a pen with some weight and balance. While the G2 or any gel pen or cheap rollerball may write smoothly, they are probably too light.
Have you thought about having a custom pen made? If you're interested, let me know...
