Robert Becker Live

I am in San Antonio for the World Science Fiction Convention. This gave me the opportunity to meet renown scuttle creator Robert Becker. Robert (Ieft) and I had a chance to talk about scuttles and shaving. He reiterated the demand for his scuttles is such he may have to start restricting the number of orders each month. I was fortunate enough to pick up my order for a black travel scuttle which matches my WD synthetic black handle brush.
It was a great pleasure talking to Mr. Becker about the creation of his scuttles. I am happy to meet an artist of our trade.

good to meet you too, Chadao.
i will be sure to pm you the next time I head to Blaine, Sumas, and Lyndon.

Hey Marty, Mr. Becker is very nice and loves talking about his art. Something I want to do here, and will not have the chance, this trip, is get a shave at the Matador Barbershop on Commerce. Next time for sure!

That's great! I love my Robert Becker scuttle. Only took him a month to get it to me, which was perfectly fine! It's beautiful.

I love my RB scuttle. I have a similar one to yours except it's bigger. Truly a work of art. You can tell that he loves what he does.

I have my order in the queue too, and can't wait! Actually, I want him to take as long as he wants, I know he doesn't get rich making these.

Yes. His prices are great. Robert is retired and he does it for fun. Great attitude Capslock. Let's not wear Robert out.

I hope these photos are a little better. I really do like it, and along with my Whipped Dog synthetic I have a nice matching travel pair.

I see, per his website, that Robert is no longer taking orders until sometime in October, due to the high demand for his scuttles. It appears he is also changing his offerings a bit (fewer models and colors; no lids) and limiting the number of new orders.

I have two of Robert Becker's scuttles: Model 001 and a travel size. Both do an excellent job of providing warm lather with each use. Highly recommend his work.

That is a beautiful color. I met with Robert Becker at his house in San Antonio (my daughter was in San Antonio for a basketball camp) and he shared with me his plans to reduce the number of different models and focus more on the more popular models and colors. He was also aware that the lids don't always fit all that well. He did want to take a bit of break and I am glad he is able to do so. A very nice, quiet, unassuming man who seemed a bit surprised by all the interest in his scuttles.

btw, I was able to see at least the entrance area of his house that for all intents was his work area and warehouse. Paint and dyes here, clay and other materials over there. Finished and unfinished products all over the place. I was really fortunate to be able to meet up with and see it all... and happy that others will continue to be able to enjoy his products.

Great story. At one time Mr. Becker was talking about not making any more scuttles because, as he puts it, the demand is so great and he wants to do his work for pleasure and not a business.

I have used my RB scuttle for some time now and love it.
