We have just learned of the passing of Tony Rice, surely the most important and influential guitarist in the history of bluegrass music.

Oh man. I hadn’t heard. I’ve probably got a dozen favorite guitar players, and Tony Rice is right up there at the top. His playing was technically amazing, but always lyrical and tasteful. And that incredible drive essential to bluegrass rhythm.

Also an amazing singer. The Bluegrass Album Band stuff floors me every time I hear it.
