Indeed. The middleweight class in the 80's was loaded with the likes of Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns. Rest in peace Mr. Hagler.
Hagler was the epitome of the notion that boxing was simply controlled violence. And sometimes, with Hagler, you weren't too sure about that "control". He was the alpha male during a decade of alphas in his milieu. Rest easy, Champ.
A great fighter from what was for me the golden age of boxing. I will never forget when he came to London in 1980 and taught Alan Minter all kinds of lessons to win the title. Truly a fight that showed the good and bad side of boxing. Rest in peace Mr. Hagler.
The sports media never gave him his due respect, had to legally change his name to "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler just so the media would be forced to call him by that moniker.
