What's new

RIP Dave Brubeck

A jazz giant has passed away today, Dave Brubeck. I never tire of listening to Take Five even though it was released 51 years ago. Rest In Peace Mr. Dave!

Very sad. I have fond memories of listening to his music when I was in high school. He'll be missed.

I wrote my best UG paper of my life on DB in advanced comp, fall 1988. I even made a cassette "mix tape" to go along with it. Not suprisingly, the professor returned the graded paper. Never got the tape back.

He was a veteran, married to the same woman for years and played professionally with 4 of his 6 kids. Men do much much worse and seldom any better with their time, talent and treasure. Blessings to you and your family, DB.

No tears friends. In a profession and at a time when many of the greatest died young, he lived his allotted and more and PIF'ed us some great tunes. For a while, Take Five was the ring tone I set for when my daughter called and it tickled her so much that it was, for a little while, our song. I don't think I've been without this album in my collection (vinyl to tape to CD to digital) since1982.

Goodbye Dave. Missing you already.

I had the pleasure of meeting this fine gentleman just a few years ago, it was humbling just to be in his presence...and a genlteman he was in every sense of the word!

good bye, fine sir

Rest in Peace, Dave.

Yes indeed.
In my travels from China to Germany Take Five has been given a fresh squeeze recognizable and admired. As a musician I believe he was the one person who could go anywhere and easily be accepted due to his nature. A class act.

Take 5 is a song I've been trying to identify for years -- heard my roommate blasting it this afternoon, and I asked him what it was. Got my answer, and the sad news.

Hell of a way to get my answer, but at least I now know what great piece of music I've been humming for years.

You have only scratched the surface. Go get a copy of Dave Brubeck's Greatest Hits for a start and their will be some more wonderful songs to hum.

Unsquare Dance is one that you may have to tap to.
