What's new

Riddle me this, a vintage Old Spice soap question.

I recently bought some Shulton Old Spice mugs from eBay and one included what appears to be a never used puck of OS soap. I have yet to use it, but the scent is nothing like I imagined. I have to be honest, if I based my decision only on the sniff test I doubt I would touch the stuff. But I've read about how great the vintage Old Spice soap is, so I've got to ask. What exactly is it supposed to small like? This bar smells almost bitter. I would expect the scent to fade with time but, I'm a little disappointed.

Bonus points for anybody that that can answer a question about the Old Spice mug. I've seen plenty of mugs with named ships (Grand Turk, etc), but I've not come across many shave mugs that simply carry the Old Spice name and logo. Are these any more difficult to come by?

Thank for your help and I'm interested in what you have to say.

Warm and spicy sounds a lot more appealing than what my puck smells like. Maybe a good lather with warm water will help it out.

It's been nearly 30 years since I used one of those, so my memory of what it smelled like is a bit weak. I would just use it and enjoy.

Unless the puck has been sealed in plastic, it will have most likely lost all of its original scent by now.

It likely has a bit of slight smell of a closed/musty house. The lather is still great. I'm sure you'd have plenty of takers if it didn't float your boat.

Just do a few rinses of it, and it should remove the outer layers that are probably the source of the smell. Unless it was sealed, the original scent is probably long gone. Definitely use it, though, as it still will deliver a great lather.

Thanks everybody. I will definitely give it a try. Not willing to give up one of the great ones because it has lost its scent.

Found one in an antique store, in an Early 02 Glass Mug for $3.50. The Puck had been used a little(the ship logo was mostly gone) and most of the scent was gone, but it lathered great! The LOTH said she could smell a little OS, I could not.

From what i remember mine smelled kind of like musk and sugar cookies are or similar but it had no bitter smell. i am terrible at describing scents but it should gain a decent scent after a rinse and some hydration.
