Rhodium Plated 46-47 Aristocrat?

This went for $108 on ebay. What is it? A replated Aristocrat, or did they make them like this? I can't find reference to any 46-47 Aristocrats being rhodium plated, but I have seen one other one on ebay recently.

They never came like that originally to the best of my knowledge. It's most likely a replate. Looks like a nice job, though $108 seems a bit steep considering someone busted an endcap off after it was plated.

Replate. I've got two replated 46-47 Aristocrats, one rhodium and one black rhodium, both by West Coast Razors. I'm assuming that the original plating was a basket case and someone decided to give that razors a new lease on life. I wouldn't trade them. Still keep my eye out for an original, but SWMBO has had a considerable dampening effect on RAD recently.

I absolutely love these old masterpieces, I have 4 gold ones and I would get more if I could afford it. Never had a Rhodium one though. In my humble opinion, these are the best razors ever produced. True class!

It might be a replate but I'm pretty sure it's a President. Most of the Presidents had the knurled collars but some of them have just one of the collars smooth or both. I believe someone here said before that Gillette used up some Aristocrat handles on Presidents towards the end. The way to tell an Aristocrat from a Diplomat is that both collars are knurled. The way to tell a President from an Aristocrat and a Diplomat is it's silver (nickel plated head and rhodium plated handle). Once you shave with them, you'll find that the Aristocrat is milder than both the Diplomat and the President (who I'm pretty sure share the same head, just different plating).

My thought is that if it were a replate, it would either have the end cap or at least be plated where the end cap should be. Someone would have had to abuse a newly plated razor to knock the end cap off. I shave almost exclusively with vintage Gillettes and have never busted an end cap off. I have bought a few missing them though.

As for the price, $108 is really steep for a President missing an end cap and no case. Now if it had both those things, that would be about the right price.

I'm very curious about this since I've never seen a Pres with both smooth collars. I've got one of each of the others. The only real way to tell I suppose, is to shave with it or at least have it in hand to be able to tell the difference between the yellower nickel on the head and the brighter, bluer rhodium on the handle.

A replated Aristocrat. Beautiful shaver in my opinion but I would not pay $108 for a rhodium Aristocrat and I'm not sure that's rhodium, looks like nickel.

+1. I hear this a lot. A thick plated nickel on a polished surface confuses many. Replated Aristo's in either nickel or rhodium are becoming pretty popular. Here's one I just got done for a member. I believe this member found this model for pretty cheap and even after replating it in nickel, he hadn't invested $108 in it.

that aristocrat looks great, the end caps missing on these razors seems to be a common thing, the price seems a bit high though, one of the uk guys who posts on here took a chance on a boxed 47 aristocrat with a £40 bin on ebay, it was a mint rhodium replate, i was going to go for it myself , the pic on ebay was a bad one and i thought it may be plate wear, the guy was over the moon with his score.

You're right about that Krona, that's my replated "47 Aristocrat with missing endcaps. I use this razor almost every time I shave. I paid $15 for razor and $35 for a lifetime replate! Fairly cheap if you ask me! I dont belive the first razor to be rhodium, hard to tell but rhodium's a little darker, I think. With Ebay, always think twice!!

This is undoubtedly my razor, shown above, that Krona just replated for me. It arrived yesterday, along with an English fat handled TECH. Both are superb.
