OkieStubble was kind enough to send me a sample of both his originial Bootlegger formula, and his new Bootlegger Bay Rum with Lime.
As background, I love Bay Rum. Aramis Havana and Czech & Speake Cuba are two of my favorite colognes. Both combine tobacco and bay rum. In addition, the only part of Bay Rum scents that I don't enjoy are cloves. A long time ago, I tried Pinaud Virgin Island BR and found it vile.
The Bootlegger Bay Rum combines Masters, Superior 70 and PVIBR. I was fortunate enough to track down Masters and Superior 70 locally, and so I know what they smell like individually.
If I were to choose 1 of the ingredients, Masters would be my favorite. I do appreciate the pure bay scent of Superior 70, but I would never wear that alone. In combination, the 3 ingredients are excellent and work synergistically. Most will like it better than any one of the ingredients alone.
The longevity is not great, but this is an aftershave we are talking about. The glycerine in the Masters is the only real skin food in the mix. Aside from that, it's an alcohol based astringent.

Bootlegger Lime is a refreshing blast for hot weather. I predict it will become a popular variation for those who enjoy Bootlegger Bay Rum. It's more Lime with a bay rum background than vice versa. Seemed to have better longevity and sillage than the original Bootlegger formula. In addition, I noticed a faint musk in the dry down. Whatever the formula is, I am sure it can be tweaked for more bay rum and less lime for those who find that the lime opening overpowers the bay rum.
Thanks again to OkieStubble for sharing his bay rum bounty!
