What's new

Retread on an old/new issue.

Greetings gentlemen (and ladies),

clearly my inquiry will lead to subjective opinions, but that is what I'm looking for, your emotional thoughts on what moves you.

The issue:

I'm brand new to DE wetshaving, and I'm addicted, and I mean addicted. I'm trying to convert any and all friends to the way of the DE blade and even the occasional stranger or two.

So I have an EJ DE89 lined, and it's been great fun and smooth shaving. I truly enjoy the ritual of the shave, every step is a Zen moment in my otherwise chaotic life. 15-20 minutes that require thought, patience, learning and calm. It's wonderful.

So, the only moment that breaks the quiet calm is the sudden slip of the barrel. I don't want to switch the barrel as I want to keep this and every future razor stock.

I'd like your opinions and suggestions on what to "add" to my shelf that is different enough from the EJ that I don't feel like I have two of the same just different handles, yet I'm not looking or ready for an extreme change (no slant or open comb yet).

So...?

Don't fear the Open Comb! Enter the Brotherhood; you will never leave.
Seriously, a Gillette NEW short comb is quite mild and a great shaver.

You'll need to try a couple Super Speeds, no collection would be near complete without them. Good grip, too!

All of the above! A Super Adjustable would be good as well as the fatboy/slim! I have a SA, and a Slim on the way!

Superspeeds are an absolute MUST own for the DE shaver, as is the Gillette Long comb NEW :)

Great suggestions, thank you. I'm tickled by the Fatboy and Slim, my mother and father are digging into boxes to find and send me both my grandfather's razors (believed to be Gillettes on father' side since he once used and so recalls). What are thoughts on Stainless machined such as Tradere or Ikon?

+1 I have tremors and feared the Open Comb. But as my technique improved I became less afraid. I finally went for the iKon because it also has a Closed Comb plate. The OC is a terrific and mild shave. Curiously, the CC is pretty aggressive. The Gillette New is a great way to enter the Open Comb world.

I started with the EJ, and at one point owned 5. Then I decided to go stainless steel (after dropping one EJ). The Weber is a really good SS and not too much more expensive than an EJ. And only slightly more aggressive. You will probably like the Bulldog handle, or the Classic handle, if you want a little more length.

Welcome to B&B! Don't fear an OC or slant. Slim adjustables are nice. They all have one thing in common. Patience. Some look bloody scary but lots of us use them everyday and enjoy the shaves.Broaden yer horizon and try something new! We're here to help if need be!
