Resturaunt's Kid's Meals complaint

So your typical sit down resturaunt hace a nice kids menu. Every option from Hamburger to Chicken fingers all come with fries. Then you get down to the bottom and they have Macaroni and Cheese, but it does not come with fries. Anyone else find this highly annoying? I don't know much about rusturaunt supply costs, but come on, Mac & Cheese has to be about the cheapest thing to make. Why do they skimp on the fries with Mac & Cheese?

I have 4 kids and one or two of them usually go for the Mac & Cheese, but then they complain that they didn't get any fries. I just don't get it.

Can anyone in the resturaunt biz enlighten me?

I personally hate "kids menus".
Generally, I order a smaller sized portion of a regular meal, or make a donation plate from what I have ordered for the Grandson.
For what it's worth, I don't care if something is included in the meal or not. If I want it, I order it and let the restaraunt people figure out how much it costs.
So I might get pulled pork and give him some of it (restaraunt portions are too huge anyway) then order more fries or rice or whatever to round out his meal, or just order a grilled cheese sandwich for him (he loves 'em) from the regular menu.

My son is 4 and we try to feed him at home or some other way than buy a sit down restaurant kids meal. They are about 7-8 dollars in this area for mac and cheese or frozen chicken nuggets and a drink. Pure pure profit for them with no effort at all. Depending on how old you child is, depends on how much of this he will eat too.

Can't answer for sure, but I think they think that if you get your starch in the macaroni you don't want another starch item (potato) with the meal. Before long this will be a law, if it isn't already!

Same with breakfast menus and things made from flour. If you get most any meal it comes with toast. Unless you get pancakes then no toast for you.

I actually take advantage of kids menus, especailly at fast food places. For example, krystals has ~$1.99 kids meals consisting of burger/chicken sandwich/hotdog/corndog, small fry, small (16oz) drink. I get this and an order of chili cheese fries (which is a meal by itself) for less than ordering a corndog and drink + chili cheese fries (and i get extra fries)

My issue with kids meals is that they put all the stuff they shouldn't be eating!

+1.

I work at a restaurant...
Our kid's menu is garbage, none of it is fresh. We've got frozen processed chicken nuggets, frozen processed chicken nuggets shaped to make a sandwich, and chicken tenders that may actually be real pieces of chicken under the breading. All three start off cooking the same way, by throwing the fries and chicken in the deep fryer. If the kid wanted the sandwich we're also obliged to toss the bun in the microwave to thaw it out. After everything is nice and crispy, the cooks pull the stuff out of the fryer, throw a handful of salt on the fries, and drop it on a plate.

If your kid ordered the chicken sandwich, and you've got the 19 year old unmarried mom waiting your table, she'll sneak a piece of lettuce and a slice of tomato on there if our boss isn't looking and won't even charge you the extra $.50 for it, because she'd want her kid to get some kind of vegetables with dinner.

IMHO, your kid would be no better or worse off with a happy meal than eating from our kids menu...

At least not on a regular basis.

We were very careful to feed our kids a nutritious, healthy, diet but did loosen up occasionally to let them "free range".
