Resting the brush

I am just starting out with the wet shaving experience and I must say it is fantastic. However, I have a question about resting your brushes. With shoes, it is best to rotate several pairs so that they have adequate time to dry. Is it the same with shaving brushes? My Vulfix 377 superbadger doesn't dry completely over night so I am wondering if this will affect the longivity of it. Thank you

I've seen where some guys have used the same brush for years on end, with no rotation. However, if you are looking for an excuse to pick up a second brush, this is certainly a good one!

Randy, you may not believe me, but I've been using the same brush for 8 years. I'd like to buy a Muehle-Pinsel brush soon, however.

Jeff,

I certainly believe you! I talked to Charles about this during the summer. Brushes are made to be used. Obviously you want to take care of them, but I think this is one of those questions that is much like using a stand. Hang it upside down or stand it upon it's base? The jury is split!

I say give it a rest, and buy that new brush!

Ah, I hear the siren song of Shaving Brush Obsessive Acquisition Disorder calling....:scared:

You can get away with using one brush, but it is fun to have more than one. I am somewhat surprised your brush isn't drying, though. When I am done rinsing mine, I squeeze them out hard, flick the water out aggressively, and give them a rub on a towel. Even the most tightly packed brush will dry completely. You being in Ohio, I would suspect the same thing. How do you dry your brushes?

Apparently I have been being too nice to my brush. I have only been shaking it out and putting it in the stand, then putting it in the cabinet. I have already read that the cabinet is a bad idea but I like the towel idea.

I only have one brush, used it for about 3-4 years almost every day, put it away when I stopped wetshaving for several years and brought it back out (it had been residing under the sink) when I got the urge to shave properly again. It still works fine -- even better than before, probably, due to the excellent advice on working up a good lather I've received from these shaving fora.

In other words ... one brush will do you, but for those who like variety, no reason not to get another ....
