Replying to PMs... Response above or below the previous quote?

Plain and simple, curiosity strikes once again and I wonder which way B&B formats replies to PMs. Do you place the cursor at the top of the box, typing your response above the previous quoted conversation? Below? Alternatively, let the first responder set the trend, and roll with it? Not really of much importance, but my organizational, obsessive genes (thanks mom) always push me to let the other guy set the trend, and keep it uniform throughout. BTW, am I getting my poll options right now?

I like to write my replies above, but I get PMs from people who do them the other way and don't mind it. I can't say the same for when people reply to emails and post their reply below the quoted text -- that actually bothers me a bit.

Always above for me in PM's. My message should be the main subject and their message is there to act as a reminder where the conversation is.

Posting the quote then your response below has been common practice in Internet chat for years. You are responding to what someone isre saying, so your reader needs the background post (the context) in order to make sense of your post. What matters is the overall context and flow of the discussion, and not your particular post.

The system actually defaults to having the quoted text above the reply by placing the quote at the very top. I have seen other systems (such as mail readers) that place the cursor above the quoted text, but that doesn't happen here.

Below, regardless of PM or forum posts. If a reader needs to be shown what is being talked about to understand it, then putting it after forces them to either read your response and not understand it until they finish at which point they must then rethink it to put it in context, or they have to scroll to the bottom of your post before reading what you said. Either way, it doesn't make sense. Below ftw.

Me too. But, if I recieve a PM from someone who does it in a different way, I'll go with their way. Really doesn't bother me that much.
