Replica Feather Razor

I picked this up. It's so cheap I think it will break within a couple months. Stay away.

And yet another chinese "who-cares-what-happens-after-you-bought-it" razor. 10 to 1 it is just a piece of junk.

Exactly. I am 100% sure it is a piece of junk. The heads on a lot of these razors are of very shoddy construction.

The Feather Popular costs around $20. Why in the world would anyone even think about buying a clone of it at that price?

A safety bar? Yes made out of plastic. I didn't actually use it. I just snapped it in half to view the TTO mechanism(also made of platic) and put it into a trash can.

Thanx Rainman for writing about your experience with this razor. I see these types of things for sale from time to time and wonder how the quality is. I can see from your description that quality was not an issue for this manufacturer!

The only new and cheap razors worth buying IMO are the 3-piece Lords. As others I keep looking for cheapo's too but as soon as I see or suspect made in China or India I back off.
My vendor, who has a brick and mortar store as well, has several on display but I haven't seen one, including Parker, that I want to pick up.

Any, no matter how worn, Gillette Tech is worth ten times the money that they charge for this kind of trash.

+1000

I really like the 3 piece Lord's: well constructed, and give great quality shaves too. The Lord Tech is almost an exact clone of the later model Gillette Tech, that lacks the center positioning tabs.

The Lord with the Merkur like head (aka the Lord Merkur Tech) is a wonderful razor regardless of price range. It simply shaves well, and is made well.

It comes in two variations, with a plastic handle, and with a aluminum handle. Only the plastic handled version is available in the us.

I have to fully agree with this. My first razor was a very well worn Gillette Tech that was PIFed to me. Even though it has it's battle scars, it still shaves perfectly; I have since had it re-plated, as it has sentimental value to me.

+1 I gotta agree with you on the Lord tech it was my 1st DE razor. I got some super speeds afterwards, but they're too mild so I use tech most of the time. What is the plastic handled(merkur tech) called, the lord smart I assume you're referring to? Could you swap the handles of the tech on to this?

Yes, the plastic handled version with the Merkur like head is called the Lord Smart. It's available from Shoeboxshaveshop:

Your luck with swapping the handles, may be successful, and perhaps not.

The first time I purchased the Lord Tech, and Lord Smart together, the aluminum handle worked perfectly with the Merkur like head. It looked identical to the model Lord sells in that configuration. Both razors came from Shoebox.

Thinking I could easily replace it, I PIFed it to a well deserving newbie.

I acquired another Lord Tech, and another Lord Smart (The Lord Tech from NTguys, and the Lord Smart from Shoebox), but the aluminum handle from the Lord Tech would not mate to the Merkur like head: the threads in this handle started too far down in the handle, rather than starting at the very top as they need to work with the Merkur like head.

Knowing of my woes, and my great desire to own another "Lord Merkur Tech", Harrie (talibeard) traded me an actual metal handled Lord with the Merkur like head. He has a vendor who stocks them locally in the Netherlands.

ok I see Shoeboxshaveshop is selling the premium 1822 is that the version with the merkur head not previously available in the states?

Photo shows a razor with the Tech style head. Ad copy mentions nothing about the Merkur like head, which would be a major selling point:

Product Description

I have never heard of a long handled razor being for guys with long necks.:lol::001_rolle
