What's new

replating a lady gillette has anyone had one done?

just got one and its not bad but wanted to make it like new for the wife and i did ask krona he said he didnt think he could do it. has anyone had these done and what were the results? i like the blue handle but if that had to be replated i guess i could live with the new plating on it. any thoughts? she has been wanting one for a while and i wanted to get it done and surprise her with it.

Perhaps it can be anodized or even cerakoted. I know many gun replaters do cerakote (which looks pretty awesome), and I'm sure it can be done to a razor at a decent price. I was lucky enough to score a pretty NOS Blue lady, but SWMBO prefers the merkur 180 now (go figure).

re has not so nice feedback on most sites and they have been known to argue with clients and send things back half done. at least this is what i saw on other shave forums before i found bandb... they left one gillette only half done when it was sent back only one wing was decent. im going to also check with the other vendors here to see what they think i was wondering if anyone has had one done and if so what was done and who did it. i was thrilled to finally have a decent example in hand then upset when i found its possible it may not be able to be done..this one is not at all terrible but i was hoping it was better than it is but i planned on doing a re-plate on it. i wish i could find a blue nos in mint condition.

I would think for the cost of a replate you get could a very nice one here on the BST or you could find one on the bay. I would post a want to buy here and see what happens.

its not a razor u can get replated. the handle is aluminum so it doesnt hold a plating. i believe the anodize it. if u could take it apart u could get the head and base plate plated but thats about it. its the same thing with the super adjustable and the black handle super speeds

the handle is in pretty sweet shape i would be fine with just the head. how does one remove the head from these??

I've done dozens of these, as well as Blue Tips and black handle Super Speeds and Adjustables.

The actual stripping or plating process doesn't damage the aluminium or the anodising, but just to be sure, I mask off the handle before stripping and replating. The handle will of course remain as it was before plating.

No razor needs to be dismantled for replating, Gillette actually plated most TTO and Adjustabled fully assembled. Taking them apart causes more issues than it solves and I only tend to do this if there are mechanical problems that require attention.

Best wishes

Dave

I can vouch for Dave/Onotoman work, he has done a few of my razors and the work was outstanding....they still shine like new years later.
