my beautiful children played a little too vigorously the other day and now i have a beautiful stanwell zebrano with a broken stem. anyone ever changed out a stem? know anyone capable who could help? how much am i looking at, do you think?

Used to have fun with Commander Yellow Pantyhose
I assume the tendon broke off and is still in the stumel? Pretty common, and many folks can do those repairs. Briarville, Tim West, mark Tinsky, Walker Briar Works, and many others.

I'm in western Canada. Yes, the tenon broke off...looks a lot like this:
Easy replacement. Just email any of the ones Hirsute listed and you'll be good to go .
Since you have to send rhe pipe in it might be an opportunity to get a long Churchwarden stem fitted as well.
