Removing and attaching endcaps

What is the best way to remove an endcap from a trashed razor so as to attached to a nice razor that has a missing endcap?
Thanks for your help.

There have been quite a few posts here about it, but the process is basically to heat the end cap to be removed so as to melt the solder, then to attach it to the new razor with a small dab of epoxy. Polish and voila!

For a heating source, I have found it best to use a good heat gun which does the job quickly and cleanly. Others have used candles which offer direct heat and is not to intense.
Super glue or 5 minute epoxy works just fine to attach the end caps. Good luck!

I have used a candle successfully and you might be surprised how fast it flows the solder. You'll get nasty black soot all over the exposed area, but a simple soap scrub and polish brings the plating back to life.

One other thing: once you get the caps off, you'll most likely need to hold it over the flame again to flow the remaining solder that will remain. On mine, I heated it up and after taking it away from the heat, immediately flick and stir the molten solder out of the end cap with a small flat punch or other metal tool, before it cools and hardens again. You may have to do this several times to get a flat, squared surface. Additionally, you might have to gently file the exposed area on the razor to give you a nice surface for which to adhere (I use an emory board, which is plenty rough for solder). All of this is to ensure the cap rests nice and flat and doesn't sit up or is cocked abnormally. Look at a good razor to remind how the cap should rest.

Good luck!

I prefer to upload rather than hotlink, unless it's a known constant like Achims site.

Some sites will give you a nasty surprise if you hotlink their pictures.
