Reknot brushes

I have been watching the bay and noticed there are EverReady brushes there all the time. I kind of want to buy a few old brushes and reknot them. I saw on youtube a video about how to remove an old knot and this seems pretty east but some of the EverReady brushes say "set in rubber" and was wondering if this steam method would still work. Whipped Dog sells knots. What are people using to reset the knot. Can any pros give more advise? Thanks!

TGN, whipped dog as well as a couple eBay company's sell knots.
I have never steamed out a knot but I hear you can damage the handle if you not careful. I always drill out the knot and clean it up using a dremel.
Set in rubber really means set in rubber.

I tried to steam a ever ready. Ended up with a handle looked like a well done hit dog!! :) Drilling's the way to do it.

I'm definitely not a pro, but I would dremel out the old knot to replace. There are lots of good advice, pictures, and detailed instructions in the brush restoration thread. I did try to steam out a knot once and ruined the handle in the process. It worked on a newer resin handle, but on older ones, I wouldn't even try. Drilling is much easier and gives a better result.

Check out the shave wiki. There is a wealth of info there on restoring brushes. Also, cruise the sub-forum on brush restoration. Lots of people here are doing incredible restores and document them step by step. I have done one so far, but have several handles drilled and prepped for new knots.

Ah yes, the wiki. Why didn't I think of that? OK, I'll not steam. I thought that might be a bad idea anyway. Thanks!
