Recommendation for Shaving Supplies from England

My brother is visiting me from England over Christmas and im going to ask him to bring me some shaving supplies. I’m specifically looking for one each the following :

-DE Razor
-Shaving Cream
-Shaving Soap
-Aftershave Splash
-Shaving Brush

He gave in to the beard craze years ago and probably hasn’t used anything but a trimmer in ages, so he won’t exactly know whats good or not when it comes to what I’m looking for.

I’d like suggestions from you people who are either based in, or have shopped in England regarding what products I should ask him to bring.

I’m looking for product that are easily available in your average drug/grocery/chemist store. Also, i’m looking for products that i will be unable to find in drug and grocery stores here in Canada. For reference, over the top of my head, these are the products you can find here in Vancouver, Canada easily :

DE Razor : Wilkinson Sword
Shaving Soap : Wilkinon Sword, Wilkinson Mug Soap, Proraso white and green
Shaving Cream : Nivea blue and white
Splashes : Aqua Velva, Old Spice, Skin Bracer, Gillette, Nivea

Id like to avoid these products since i can find them here anyway.

Thanks in advance people!

FYI - my brother is based in Cambridge.

Depending upon when your brother is leaving, you may be able to make an order online and have it delivered to him. That makes it less of a drag for him to help you out.

I am a big fan of DR Harris products. You could also look at an Edwin Jagger razor, Tabac soap... it is a long list.

Your taste and budget play a big part.

I cannot comment on a DE razor as I use only vintage items and there are few if any in regular drug stores or groceries. However, for shaving cream you could try TOBS, DR Harris, Geo F Trumper, or Truefit and Hill creams, all relatively inexpensive and easy to obtain in larger chemist stores. I do not rate English soaps very highly, apart from MWF which is very inexpensive in the UK, as is Tabac although that is not British, again both inexpensive and easy to find. Both of these are superb and I would look no further. For a splash there is Tabac, or maybe Yardley which are easy to find in the high street and affordable. For brushes, it has to be Simpson, but again in a high street chemist there is likely to be little choice, maybe Kent or TOBS neither of which I like, or very cheap Wilkinson Sword brushes. Most shaving supplies in the UK I would guess are bought by mail order, as the choice on the high street is so limited unless you are in London, or are lucky enough to have a specialist store nearby. As suggested above I would advise your brother to use the mail order route if he has time.

Regarding shaving creams, I recommend Castle Forbes (expensive) or Trumper (inexpensive). For aftershave splash, I recommend Pashana--it smells just like the London barbershop where I once got a haircut.

In the high street Boots and Superdrug have a number of products, if @AimlessWanderer is around then he can make the best recommendations.

Some of the larger supermarkets carry the new Wilkinson Sword razors.

If he is in London then there is the Mühle shop off carnaby street. Lot's there to choose from, but you are better off ordering from Executive Shaving or Wet Shaving Supplies – Shave Lounge - https://shavelounge.co.uk/ to be delivered to him to bring over.

Thanks for the shout, although my use over the years has been pretty limited. I've been the sort to (mainly) find something I like, then stick to it.

Soap: From here on, I'll just be using Mitchell's Wool Fat and Palmolive shave sticks, with the occasional sample thrown in for variety. You can get Palmolive from Superdrug (Wilko did sell it too, but my local one has stopped). Boots also have an own brand shave stick, but I haven't tried it. There's also Wilkinson Sword blue bowl, which is OK, but not as good for me as the two I already mentioned.

Cream: I picked up a tube of Erasmic on the High Street for £1.00 from Bodycare, and it performed as well as the London barbershop products (Trumpers, Taylors, Truefitt).

Post Shave: I use Nivea Sensitive (available everywhere), and for aftershave lotion - what you call splash - I have been using Superdrug's own brand Forest Fresh. Boots own brand Freshwood aftershave is another decent High Street cheapie. Obviously, both these contain alcohol, so he might be questioned bringing that in if he has more than enough for a pleasure trip with him.

Palmolive shave sticks go for 75p last time I was there, so stock up. Ingraham cream is nice but supposedly discontinued ?

I had a shave at Truefitt & Hill last summer, and they used their Apsley cream. Smelled really good, and I bought a tub before I left.

Arran shaving cream is a good performer and can be found in a few high street shops, but is easier to order online. Ditto for Phoenix and Beau, who do some good soaps and AS products; I like their Spitfire scent, but others are nice, too. Pashana is an aftershve splash I like, although opinion on it is divided. However, it is very cheap and so might be worth a try.

MWF is one of my favorite soaps, that one should be on your list. I would also consider an EJ razor. Simpsons and Kent make great brushes.

A tube of Erasmic somehow made its way to a TJMaxx store in the US and I finally got around to using it earlier this year. Now I want more of it. That is really good cream but so very hard to find here at a good price.
