Recommend a brush. Please

I am new to DE shaving but loving it so far. Recently purchased a EJ best black badger brush. I like it but am not in love with it.

I am looking for a brush that is very soft on the face with backbone to bowl lather well. Budget is a consideration. Please advise and thanks in advance.

Some of the greatest values in shaving are boar brushes.

Hard to imagine that you could go wrong with the B&B Essential or any of the Semogue offerings.

I agree with MacBreezy about budget. If you're able to state the top of your brush allowance, be it $25, $45 or whatever, it will allow others to make recommendations. And, may I suggest you state your top end. Period. Otherwise, as well-intentioned and helpful fellowshavers, we'll push your number!

The B&B Boar is a fantastic brush, soft tip good back bone. The Vintage Blade brand two band brush is an excellent value in badger brush.

Black badger generally isn't very soft.

What you really want is a Whipped Dog Silvertip. They are out of stock for Silvertip until mid month, but for less the $30.00 you can have an exceptional brush. A little more if you have it set deeper. By far the best bang for the buck.

I would like to stay under $50 shipped if possible. Thanks for the help. With all the choices out there, I appreciate your insight.

Semogue SOC boar $40. You can't go wrong with this brush.

+1 This is a great brush. It will get fairly soft after a short break-in period and it makes a bowlful of lather with very little effort. It's an excellent return for the money.

And if you later want to use your face for a bowl this is also a pretty darn good brush for that.

Another vote for the Semogue, a great git it done brush that is economic and works well. The 610 or 620s are under 30 bucks shipped.

Omega Pro 49, a large brush, gets soft (breaks in) quickly, boar smell will disappear after 4 uses. Makes great bowl of face lather, has more springy backbone than other boars and will last you forever. Tried everything and this one is it. $9 at Maggards.

If you are considering a boar brush, I have to say that I really love my B&B Essential Boar by Omega from West Coast Shaving. They are out of stock right now but will be getting more in a different color "soon". For only $20 it is a great introduction to boar brushes and works well for face lathering and (I'm told) for bowl lathering (if for some reason, you want to use that beautiful new brush to massage your bowl :wink2:). The handle is heavy, high quality plastic so you don't have to worry about soaking it too long. Your investment is minimal if you decide boar is not for you and these things seem to sell pretty quickly on buy/sell/trade so you could probably get most of your money back.

Please note that I am a newbie and YMMV. Lots of people with more experience have other recommendations but I like my B&B so much I felt like I had to share my opinion.

If these are your priorities I would like to recommend a Mühle synthetic. I have this one in mind http://www.connaughtshaving.com/33k257.html .

For reference you might want to take a look at a thread I started recently: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/359040-Stick-brushes-shootout .
Enjoy your shaves!

Vulfix Super Badger 660S. Medium size at $ 24 and Large size at $ 31. Postage not included but it is very inexpensive. If interested, sent PM for Link.

If your after luxury but dont want to spend too much dont forget to check out the Kent H8 brush. Big, soft, good as a face latherer and in the bowl. Feels like the softest tipped badger but with the back bone of boar. Also the cheapest of the size 8 range. Sweet handle aswell.
