Have you ever had a whole week of just... bad shaves?
It all started last Thursday, when I picked up a pack of 5 Super-Max Kwik-3 disposable razors from the dollar store. I thought, why not give these a try? 3 blades, no gel strip, no hair-raiser, a handle almost like a Gillette Sensor, and fairly wide blade gaps (much wider than any of my other cartridge razors). The blades seemed to cut hair fairly well, but it felt like the razor was trying to dig in as I shaved. 1 pass with the grain, 1 pass against the grain. There was more stubble left after these 2 passes than I'm used to. I started going against the grain, but I just couldn't manage to keep the razor on my skin without it cutting in a bit. My face felt pretty irritated by this point, so I finished the shave with my Merkur 38b + a Russian Gillette Yellow blade that was about ready to be replaced. I had to skip shaving the next day. Used Kiss My Face cream + a brush.
Saturday - I just finished a 1 hour session of weed whacking the back yard, took a shower, then proceeded to shave with my Merkur 38b and a fresh Feather blade (my favorite shaving instruments). My hands were shaking (consequence of weed whacking). I nicked myself 4 times before I just gave up. I decided to finish the shave with a Gillette Fusion. My shaking hand probably made it just like using a Gillette Fusion power. Used Kiss My Face cream + a brush.
Other days - I simply rushed my shaves too much with the Merkur 38b and Feather blade. It had been a very busy week and I was always rushed. The results were not nearly as good as I normally get when I take my time. I typically got nicks.
Today - I went and bought the Schick Hydro-3 from Walgreens (on sale). I did a 3 pass shave. I used alba cocoa butter moisturizing cream shave (brush-less). I got a scraping feedback sound from the blades cutting hair. By the end of the shave I had 5 weepers. The amount of goop this thing spews out is just... out of control. My first impression of this thing is not that bad, in spite of all the weepers.
In conclusion, rushing a shave just leads to problems. I don't think I even saved any time trying to rush my shaves, because the amount of stubble left over by going fast makes for more work. Slow down, turbo.
