Recent Acquisition for Restoration

Thought Id share a gift a friend picked up for me. He claims he got em cheap at an antique store. He is always searching for some new treasures so I mentioned to pick up any shaving stuff that he comes across.

I really dont know much about straight razors, the top 2 are Wade and Butcher and the bottom is Joseph Allen and Sons. Some light rust in a couple spots, I looked at the blades with a jewelers loupe and there appeared to be no cracks and the edges seemed fine. Additionally these came with a strop, barbers hone, paddle strop but these items seem to be fairly beat up. Two will need new scales for sure and the blades will need some clean up. Never restored a straight and will need some hones to learn that too but it should be a fun experience and with all the great info on B&B it should be possible. And then I will need to learn to shave with one of these bad boys.

they look really nice i especially like the middle one i think the general advice is not to learn to shave with an edge you have honed yourself as you have no known good blade to compare it to and therefore.it is impossible to measure the success of your honing the besr idea is to get one honed by someone who knows what they are doing and do the others yourself

Thanks Superdave, that is a very good suggestion. I will get some other straight I have honed by someone who knows what they are doing or possibly buy one that is honed/shave ready from a particular vendor I have heard good things about on this forum. Having a "control sample" for comparison would be very helpful.

Those look great! Have a blast with the restore. Good thing you have three, since once you do one, you'll be addicted to the process and will need to do more ;)
