What's new

Received my samples from Mike's today, and the package was open.

My wife got the mail!:scared:
Sometimes she feels the need to screen my orders, especially if it comes from soap people.
I ordered a sample of every shaving soap he had available, so now comes the hard part-which to try first? I'm leaning toward Orange Cedarwood & Black pepper or perhaps Barbershop?

In my opinion you can't go wrong with the Orange Cedar and Black Pepper or Barbershop. They are both fantastic. Those are my two favorite scents of his, but I find that the Barbershop gets more use.

I went with the Orange cedarwood and black pepper. It smells like oranges!:biggrin1: I gotta work on lathering a bit, it does not lather the same as Mystic Water, Arko, or Saint Charles Shave- the three I've been using recently. I think the Marco method is what is needed.

I use Mike's as well. do you bowl lather? I do, and found that if you load the brush whip up a lather then squeeze out the lather into the bowl and repeat you will get great results. Just have to dial it in so you don't make a ton of it. give it a try.

Peppermint and Rosemary! Or Hungarian Lavender! Orange Cedarwood Black Pepper! Coconut! Ah shoot you gotta try them all, they are good stuff.

Which flavor does she like?
Ah.. the most important question! She has a sinus infection, so anything with a hint of a strong scent she doesn't like. So far she said no to Barbershop, said the Bay Rum was clovey, and the Lime smells like lime-which is a big yes! She showed interest in the Lavandin Eucalyptus, which is strange since she does not like Eucalyptus.

I hope you screen your wife's mail, too.:thumbdown

Anyway, Marco's method works for me, progressively adding water as needed.

My lather hasn't been perfect, but I think I'm almost there.

Great stuff, though. Love the moisturizing properties.

Opening someone else's mail is a federal offense. This is serious.
Anyway.... to the REALLY serious issue.... my favorite Mike's soaps are Pine & Cedarwood and Orange Cedarwood & Black Pepper. Peppermint & Rosemary (I think) is also good for the holiday season.

Enjoy!

Ben

Did you get Hungarian Lavender? If so, ask her to whiff it. It's my favorite.

happy to hear this, mine is in the mail, any chance you can show a pic of the lather please? whats the scent like, mike himself seem to realy like it?

The Barbershop is a VERY awesome scent so it gets my vote. However I must say Mikes soaps seem to leave my face a bit dry...nothing some aftershave balm cant fix though.

I've been putting off buying some of the Mike's since I already have too much (the wife's opinion) but this thread is tempting me. Maybe if I just get the samples, it'll slide.

Wow, I don't think I've read that much. Most people seem to put Mike's up there with MWF for skincare properties.

You can't have too much if you don't have Mike's! It's just not possible.

First lather wasn't great, second lather was good. This stuff requires almost twice as much water and time as anything else I've ever used before. Not able to judge performance off of two uses yet, wanting to keep an open mind. I am looking forward to my next effort, I have many samples to go through.
Love the Orange Cedarwood and pepper scent!

Save the Lemongrass + Eucalyptus for last. Trust me, you'll understand! Good luck with an amazing soap and it is a thirsty soap.
