What's new

Received first brush!

Finally received my first brush, the Frank Shaving 26mm "Chubby" finest. I must say its quite nice and I'm not disappointed. I lathered it up quite nice yesterday evening, and will give it another spin tomorrow!
Much better than lathering proraso rubbing my face with my palms.

Now all I'm waiting for is my kit from WD and I'm all set to try straights!

Oh and, it goes better with a song:

:-D

I used it for the second time this morning, but lathered in a bowl. I'm thinking I preferred face-lathering like I did the time before. It just goes everywhere in a bowl, the lather keeps climbing out! :)

Haha definitely much better! I can't wait to receive the kit from WD with a pure black badger 24mm to compare to this brush.

Haha sorry for the link, it was too hard to resist. Yours is quite something as well!

As for the brush, its not Horn, only resin/acrylic immitation, but I find it quite nice. You can find it easily on ebay, its from the seller iantang.

I like that brush handle! Is it horn?

I clicked that link and after it started loading I thought "Oh no, I know what this is." And I was right. Well, *** for tat........... http://youtu.be/J1c2KzJbcGA

Try less water and it won't go everywhere. You can add water to the bowl as you work it in.

I have a couple of Bob Farvours built about like that, and they do excel at face lathering, just okay in the bowl (where I prefer my boars)

yeah I gave it another try in the bowl, it was ok, actually I'm thinking I could've done 6 passes with all the lather I had in there, I probably loaded a bit too much I guess. It was nice and smooth, but still, the lather kept trying to creep away on the sides of the bowl. Then again the bowl is probably not ideal, I just stole it from the kitchen ;)

I'll try face lathering again and figure out later which one I prefer. So far I very much like the brush, but then again I can only compare with my old technique of palm-to-face lathering ;)

Well, I figure its appropriate for me to report here since I've just received my SECOND brush!!
It should've been here long ago, but just got here tonight. I got a 24mm pure black badger from Whipped Dog (along with a sign unseen kit).

I must say, for those who might be tempted to get that brush I ordered from Frank Shaving...its not as nice as the one from Whipped Dog. It just feels cheap in comparison (not as heavy), and its definitely not as soft! I was sure that the one from WD would be rougher, being a pure black badger brush and the Frank Shaving brush being "Finest", but there's a big difference between the two.

Anyway, I'll try to post pics and impressions later on.
