I posted this in old thread, but I need some quick input.
This is how my R41 came out of the box today. Is this cleanable or is it a plating issue? If it's cleanable, what should I use? I have zero experience cleaning up razors. Am I better off just sending it back?
It's kind of hard to tell.
What does it feel like when you pass your finger over it?
Does it go away if you spritz it with window cleaner and buff dry?

I wouldn't try any cleaning that's too ambitious. If you don't succeed there might be a chance that the seller would not give you full credit for the razor. That said, a little light rubbing with a dry cloth would be worth a try.

This is what I was worried about. Well, I try the dry buff and also some light window cleaner and saw no improvement. It's just annoying to have to ship the thing back and wait for the new one. It's a small blemish, but the beauty of the razor is part of the enjoyment imo and I don't like paying full price for damaged/tarnished products.
If it is just a slight scuff or rub mark it might polish out with semichrome or a similar metal polish. If it is a dent pit or deep scuff or the plating isn't stuck you need to send it back. Remember if you don't have a good metal polish it will cost you around 10 bucks, so it might be cheaper to send it back, plus you might go to the trouble of buying polish and it still might not work.
if it does't rub out with some Maas, I'd contact Muhle. I have had similar top plates come that way, and they have always taken care of me (replacement plate)
they have very good Customer Service from my dealings.
You clean it you own it. I would imagine the vendor could then declare you were the one who damaged it. I have had this happen from time to time. It is like a point where the chroming dried or was in contact with something.
not sure it's been mentioned, I never saw, but where was it purchased?
and have you contacated the vendor directly to see what they say? you never know, they may say "return it on us", they may say "here's a replacement, no charge", they may say "would you accept a 50% discount", they may say "get lost".
I'd try to deal with it with the vendor and see what they say, then go to the supplier (Muhle, who like I said have taken care of me in the past with almost exactly the same issues, by offering me a FREE no charge piece and samples)
