Firstly, thanks to all who have helped me and don't know it. I have been lurking for months now and have reaped a wealth of knowledge.
I have struggled with shaving a problematic, coarse (think coaxial cable) beard for years and years. I have, like many, purchased and tried every conceivable cartridge configuration out there. I had settled to the Gillette Sensor Excel because it had only two blades and seemed to work the best for me. I thought, why can't you just get one blade? It seemed to me the more blades I shaved with, the worse my experience was. I looked into straights and balked as the initial investment for an unsure thing was a little intimidating. My research into straights led me to the discovery of the DE razor. Wow! A one-blade system! I did not know people still used them! I bought a starter kit and tried it out. I loved it. Shaving became an enjoyable experience! Amazing! Looking forward to shaving was not a feeling I ever expected to have. Don't get me wrong. I am still a newbie but when I go all in, I go all in. I don't use any part of that kit anymore as I have upgraded in every capacity. I went from a Parker 91? to a Muhle r41 because aggressive is what my beard needs. I patiently tried many different blades and settled on the Feather (I only get two shaves per blade but they are the best shaves for me. I can squeeze in a third shave as long as I do one wtg pass but I am playing with fire at that point).
So now, the lure of the straight has come knocking and I am going all in again. There is nothing you can do to stop me just as I couldn't be stopped when the r41 came out. I am willing to learn and suffer if need be. I think I am interested in getting a Dovo. I do want a new razor and I am now willing to spend the cash. I thought their entry level model would be good but I would take suggestions definitely. I want a full-hollow and probably a 6/8. I don't necessarily want a beginner's blade because I want something I can grow into. If anyone thinks there is a great option for me, I'd love to hear it ($150 is my sweet spot, I think).
Thank you all, again. Especially for letting me lurk all this time.
