What's new

Re-visiting a neglected friend.

As I've recently been concentrating on learning and developing my technique with a straight razor, my DE's have been getting neglected to a fairly major extent :blushing:

With the exception of my fat handled Tech (with a Feather in it's cap), my normal rotation of DE's has been quietly gathering dust.

However, this weekend we're away (and yes I'm still finding time for B&B!) so when I was packing my Dopp kit yesterday I had to pause for a moment to decide what to bring.

The brush was easy...my Men-U boar brush, it's even got it's own travel case now as it fits pefectly into the empty cardboard tube that came with a miniature of Glenfiddich 12 year old single malt :001_smile.

Soap, again easy decision...stick of Palmolive, perfect for face lathering with no extra bowls required :thumbup1:.

Now for the hard part, which razor and blade combination? Blades came easier, Gillette Bleue Extra....I've got a started pack in the plastic dispenser, used blade slot on the back so no issues with disposing of used blades and no need to carry a loose blade in my Dopp kit, or have a loaded razor lying in wait for an unsuspecting hand.
Once I'd decided on the blades, the choice of razors narrowed a bit further...SE was obviously out, Tech and Bleues don't really mix well for me (YMMV), so now we have just a few contenders...40's or 50's Superspeeds or a Slim. As soon as it got to this stage, the answer was obvious...my birth year Slim (M2)! :w00t:

Aftershave? Mmmm just go with the Witch Hazel in an atomiser, no mess and the 25ml bottle is a perfect size for travelling

Gents, you will be happy to hear that this morning's shave was a DFS 3 pass shave!! 1 x WTG on 3, then 2 x XTG (in opposite directions) on 5

No nicks, cuts or even weepers.

I'm still going to keep up with the straights, but I'll definitely be visiting my old friends more often!
