A while back, my father decided to go back to DE shaving, primarily because the carts were getting to become outrageous in price and weren't lasting long enough to justify said price. Unfortunately, he went too cheap and bought some crappy razors off of Ebay that were like three for $15. For poops and giggles, I tried one this past summer with a new Feather blade and it was like shaving with a disposable that had been in daily use for six months. Yikes! Yeah, it was that bad! The blade wouldn't even sit in the head without easily moving back and forth. It felt like some cheap trinket that I got out of a gumball machine. My father does keep the best out of the three at his girlfriend's, but he admits that even that one is kind of crappy.
A few weeks ago, while I was visiting, he saw my 34c sitting out, so he gave that a whirl. He couldn't get over how nice it was to shave with a quality razor. He's been talking about chucking the cheap-o razors and getting a good one. Thus, finding a present this season for my father has been made much easier.
I ordered a Merkur Progress. My reasoning was that I know my own face and what I want from a razor in terms of aggressiveness; however, I don't necessarily know what someone else requires. Therefore, I figured that getting an adjustable would be the best course of action. Dad will be able to tailor the razor to his tastes. I'm also going to order a 100 pack of Astras to include.
Anyone else getting anyone shaving stuff for the holidays?
