RazoRock - wax or balm?

I bought the 888 wax - the jury is still out for me. Eucalyptus and tea tree oils in this give it it's benefits, but I am having a hard time due to two things: 1) it does not really seem to provide enough post-shave soothing which is something I was hoping for. It does feel nice, but does not fully replace AS or moisturizer for me. 2) I am struggling to accept the smell - to me (no offense intended to RR as I really like my other RR products) my immediate smell memory was of my granparent's musty basement.

I guess I was hoping for a little more back from this product. I will give it a go again this coming week to see if I can jump into the "I love this stuff" camp.

Ok - a quick update on the 888wax - I am liking my combination today. So, for what it is worth...I might have jumped the gun.... Today:
Shower prep
Proraso Green
Fresh Astra
Muhle 89 (awaiting arrival of r41, 2011, and Fatip Grande...)
Thayers cucumber witch hazel, allowed to dry
Floid Blue (via atomizer)
888 RR Wax

I am actually very impressed by how my face is feeling now some 4 hours later. Not tight, not greasy, not dry either. I am going to try this combination for a few days in a row and will post conclusions. I am recalling the jury on this case until further notice...
Cheers!

I love the original wax but the smell of lavendar can be a bit strong for some

My wife absolutely hates it

the results are great though soothing on razor burn and moisturizing afterwards

I really like the smell of both eucalyptus and tea tree oil, but I'm afraid they may be a little harsh for my sensitive skin

I use Speick AS followed by the lavender wax everyday.

Use the wax very sparingly and apply to a wet face. For me this has proven to be a perfect combination.

The way I use it, it's very light if noticeable at all. Sparingly + water.

The scent I do pick up is a very straightforward natural lavender.

I tried the King Louis wax this morning after alum block, excellent product...recommended. Smells wasnt that overpowering like I thought it would be...
