RazoRock Superslant views, reviews, and shaves

I managed to get a Superslant L1++OC off eBay for a decent price, and used it earlier today for the first time.
With the built-in angle, it feels a lot like a Henson to me, possible even a little smoother.
Can't draw a verdict after just one shave, but I'm happy for now.

???

first I have heard of the Konsul. I have been away too long. How does it shave?

How is that aftershave? I have never heard of that.

And now for my question. I have and love the Yaqi Top Aggressive slant. It makes my face feel like marble. Buuuuut, I can't shave more than two days in a row without having to take a day off.

After days reading through this thread, it seems like the L3++ SB would be perfect for me. Other aggressiveness junkies have said that with the L3++OC, it is too much for a daily driver. Can anyone confirm this?

Also, is the L3++SB comparable to any other razors? Maybe a blackbird?

Many thanks!
Sorry, been a crazy few months for me. I actually almost exclusively use the blackland osprey ti now. Better than any razor I've ever used

gonna be watching this thread intently!!
Back to town, 6 hour drive after the long working ranch weekend. Dusty out there, didn't bother to shave.

SS L3++OC / Nacet (1)
Jikoryen stick / big Zenith boar

Nacet loaded easily, shave went fast. Two pass and touch up. My cheeks and jawline were glassy smooth after the two passes, no surprise with a Nacet in this razor. I did touch up my neck maelstroms, but did not chase the baby.

Felt great to get the stubble off. No irritation, no blood, no balm or AS, just a fast, effective shave 90 minutes before bedtime.

SS L3++OC / Nacet (2)
Jikoryen stick / big Zenith boar
Osage Rub

Prep with triple lather/rinse using mentholated, old formula Col. Conk Lime.

Nacet in place, again a quick two pass and touch up. My cheeks and jawline were perfectly smooth after minor touch up in a couple small areas. I touched up my multi-directional neck maelstroms in the usual way.

This shave had to wait until the end of a long family dinner. It's bedtime! No drama. I splashed some Osage Rub to check for any undetected scrapes or irritation. All clear.

Unlike the Wunderbar or a Merkur slant, I don't take extra care over my adam's apple or in the odd nooks and crannies. If I get the shave angle wrong I pay with a second stroke or moment of touch up later, not with a nick or scratch.

I use this L3++OC plate with the same attitude and at the same pace as any of my Superslant plates.

Brief hot rag, no other prep. Testing the plate! Git 'er done.

Nacet in place, slightly slower two pass and touch up. My cheeks and jawline were smooth, just touched up the left jawline. As always, I touched up my neck maelstroms.

It was another bedtime shave. No drama, went a bit carefully, not for safety, just because the Nacet no longer quite so wickedly efficient. The Floïd signaled an irritation-free shave.

I plan to get a few more shaves from this razor/plate and the Nacet. So far, this daily L3++OC shaving has met my expectations. Pushing on seems in order.

If I was going to use this razor for every shave, 6 or 7 days a week, I would probably change blades after 3 or 4 shaves and generally go a step down from the Nacet. I like a number of platinum blades. They would probably form the bulk of my blade rotation.

Good prep would also be a daily requirement. No prep today - noticeable. As I write this I'm downgrading the shave to 'slight irritation'. Gotta prep!

This right here is why I love this site.

See, my Yaqi Top Aggressive Slant shaves me like glass when I have taken a day off in between shaves prior to the shave in question.

Two shaves in a row results in some minor discomfort, three in a row and my skin is angry and hates me.

From the above, it seems that you are having a similar, though somewhat more delayed, experience with to L3OC++. Which is incredibly useful information. Just what I wanted to know.

Would you mind if I pivot the analysis? You mentioned that some of your favorite blades are one step below Nacet to a platinum blade. Do you mind if I ask which ones you favor?

For me, the next logical step of the experiment is for you to stop shaving for a day or two, and then start back up using one of your step down blades. The question we would be trying to answer is, are you able to shave every day comfortably with a step down blade?

Really invaluable feedback you are providing me. thank you!

I think the minor irritation is entirely to be blamed on the almost non-existent prep.

I am going to stick with every day Nacet until the blade is ready to go in the bin. I'm guessing it will be 2 or 3 shaves, since my standards for a Nacet are high.

Then I'm happy to reset my skin for a day or two. My platinum blades are my standards, with Voskhod, Feather, Kai and Nacet when I want extra oomph.

I have unopened 100s of Gillette Platinum, Rapira Platinum Lux, and SuperMax Blue Diamond Platinum backing up the numerous loose tucks from the last 100s I parceled out. I am well supplied in my standard platinum blades.

Pick one of those platinums if you like. The RPLs are probably my first choice, but the Gillettes have gotten a lot of play recently.

After some platinum shaves with the L3++OC, I am going to get back to my straights, with a Slantember tour of slants for the neck maelstrom touch ups.

Sounds like a plan! Thank you for being willing to entertain my questions.

Either the Gillettes or Rapiras would be informative!!!

SS L3++OC / Nacet (4)
Grooming Dept Citrus Moisturizing Pre-shave
Ach. Brito Mogno soap grated into a stick / vintage Klenzo mixed badger/boar
Dickinson witch hazel, Bimini B badger blend ala Stubblebum

IMG_6440.jpeg

Excellent Grooming Dept prep including one Mogno pre-lather and rinse.

Steady two pass and touch up. My cheeks and jawline smoothed easily, though not as swiftly as with a fresh blade. I touched up my neck maelstroms as per usual

Witch hazel cleaned off the last slickness of soap. The Bimini B blend was very refreshing on a hot night. No irritation, so I'm just chilling and writing another shave into the books.

I've scrutinized these Czar-driven shaves far more usual. I listen closely to the audio feedback. I even notice the feel of the open comb, which normally I never register at all. The blade feel is there as expected, but I'm really evaluating its changes over the course of four shaves.

If I don't take precautions I'll become a tedious connoisseur. Or an academic using terms like time-series or longitudinal.

Perhaps I've already shaved my way around the bend?

Grooming Dept prep: applied, worked in, reapply right on top, worked in, once more for luck. Rinse face and the brush, load the Mug, face lather. I went very wet, as if it were an SR shave.

Good pace for the two passes and touch up. The Nacet was smoother and cutting more easily than expected. I finished my neck, a light, swift touch up did it.

Rinse, generous witch hazel splash, quick wipe, Citrus Musk for a little Pinaud sting.

Big day, early fifteen mile bike ride with two significant climbs, two hours of driving practice with the youngest son after the day got hot. Nap after dinner!

Thorough prep and the cumulative effects of daily close shaves made it smooth, easy, and fairly quick tonight.
