I received my RazoRock SLAB razor in the mail last week and I've used it everyday since. I must say, I'm really impressed with it. The look and feel of it certainly falls into the ranks of good quality razors. I took a close look at the polished head as I have read a couple reviews indicating that the plating on the heads were not consistent. It looked fine to me.
For those who have not seen it yet, the SLAB is a three-piece DE razor. The handle has excellent knurling that ensures a firm grip even in the slipperiest of times. The handle itself is 80mm "marine grade" stainless steel. The head is chrome over zinc alloy (according to the Italian Barber website). I'm not sure where that falls in terms of estimated longevity when compared to chrome over brass; however, at the price point of $40, I will not complain.
I find the weight and overall balance very comfortable. Having mostly used my long-handled Mergress this past year, it was a nice change. That said, I still need some time getting used to the nuances of a new razor and leaving the comfort of my "old reliable" Mergress behind for now.
I have tried several blades in the SLAB (GSB, Voskhod, Gillette Platinum) and have been rewarded with a nice shave using each.
I was surprised at how aggressive the SLAB actually is. It's not super aggressive, but I did find it more aggressive than my original razors, the Merkur 34D and 38C. Looking at the razor with the blade in it, I noted that there was an impressive blade gap compared to some of my other razors (Sorry, I don't own calipers). If one is not careful, this razor could reach out and bite you. I nicked myself under my nose and it has been quite some time since I did that. Obviously, my injury was a "user error" but it did emphasize my observations regarding the blade gap.
Overall, this razor is really nice. I like how it looks, feels and performs and I will go out on a limb and declare that I will be keeping this razor indefinitely. I should mention that I sold my ATT Titan after trying it out for a few months and even swapping baseplates in hopes of getting it to work for me. Alas, I sold the Titan on the B/S/T not because it was an inferior product, but because it did not work for me. The RazoRock SLAB works for me and that's all there is to it.
Best Regards,
Jay
