Razorock Mudder and Martin de Candre thoughts

Recently acquired these soaps.

The Razorock Mudder is an excellent in scent. It's sort of a complex scent with vanilla and something more masculine I cant identify. Performance is good like most Italian products. I prefer the lathers I produce with this over RR XXX or Cella, it seems thicker but could just be me. I hope I can find something similar when time to replace. Or I'll just order more now with my soap hoarding tendencies.

Martin de Candre I just received and used it a few times only. I like the scent but I can see why it wouldn't be for everyone. It feels nice on the face and performs well in type of lather, slickness etc. The one thing is I expected lathering to be foolproof from reviews here. While I didn't have problems with it, I still had to find the sweet spot like other soaps. Im glad I have this and it will crack the rotation, but it did not distinguish itself over my other favorites.

good to hear you had success with the RR, i have yet to try that one.

with regards to the MdC, did you load it normal, or try loading it for 2sec, like some suggest? i say load it like any other product for the 1st few times (30-45sec load time) and you will get amazing lather but way too much. once you become familiar with it, you can then dial it down so you don't waste as much.

I definitely tried to load it for about half the time of my other soaps the first go round, clearly a mistake. My natural tendency is to use a ton of product, so 2nd, 3rd shaves I did and it was better.

there you go...don't buy in to the hype and myth that you can wave your brush over it and it will produce enough lather for 10 passes.

start out normal, then dial it down from there...i started with 45sec for quite a while, now i'm down to a comfortable 15sec and get enough for 3+passes.

glad it's working out for you better now.

I'd agree with this approach. I loaded like normal when I first got my MDC and had impressive lather. I don't normally count swirls but I do so with MDC as I've found that it takes very little loading to get the lather I need and I'll just waste MDC if I don't count. It's probably a better approach to dial it down versus being underwhelmed due to insufficient loading.

Yeah, I only very recently acquired MdC from a member here and heard the 10 second load time stories but my first two times using it I didn't get enough lather for 3 passes, hardly two. So tonight I'll be upping the load time.

t first I was overwhelmed by the scent and thought no way. Now, because of Brucered's children I strongly associate the smell with fruit loops. I told my new wife to smell it and she said the same thing. The performance was pretty good and I imagine will only get better once I load longer.

Great posts, gent.

I've been using MdC for a while. The Mudder Fokker is en route. Looking forward to making my own comparison.

As for loading MdC, I thank a LOT depends on the water hardness. I have a water softner. 10 seconds IS plenty for MdC.
Nearl;y every other soap, 20 to 30. Unless I stumble into a real poor quality soap, I never load more than 30 seconds.

Soft water...mmmm. Better than Fruit loops. Much better.

I'm sorry what is Mudder scented like? The only reason these two are in the same thread is becase OP has them both right? They aren't similarly scented correct?

It's kind of a spiced vanilla scent with some tobacco, I suppose. I know RazoRock Joe wanted to make it similar to Boellis Panama. I actually like it better. It's more masculine than the Panama EDT I have sniffed.

Just because OP bought both recently. They are very different in scent. Mudder smells wonderful, vanilla like with other more masculine stuff. (Totally useless description I know, but Im bad at separating scent notes) MdC smells decent, very much like other rosemary/mint combos with a strong lavender kick. Very unique.

Jefebadskin - I'm am a huge MF fan, and despite RR's gigantor name recognition, I think Mudder Foker is still a relatively undiscovered gem on these boards.

I am curious: you mentioned in a previous post that MDC just cracks your top cream/soap rotation. So, what else is in your top rotation...curious 'cause it sounds like you have good taste and maybe I can learn something new!

Right now my rotation is mikes barbershop, mystic water Maestrale and sensitive skin, strop shoppe black tie, and recently institut karate, MdC, Mudder. I'm not sure it's good taste, I just own way too many soaps.
