RazoRock Lavender Soaps.

I just received some RR Chianti Lavender because I wanted to get a tallow soap instead of the veggie King Louis Lavender. Anybody have experience with this one vs. King Louis Lavender regarding scent? The Chianti Lavender seems a bit light. (I know - I should have got both right?)

I had already hijacked a lavender cream thread over in the Shaving Creams forum so I thought I would ask here for an opinion on these two and also ask for some recommendations for favourite lavender soaps. I have some Mike's Hungarian Lavender on the way, can't wait to try it!

The Chianti Lavender is more of a real French Lavender scent where the King Louis is a softer, sweeter scent. At least that's what I remember. It's been awhile since I used either of them. I preferred the performance and scent of the CL over the KL, but I know many guys are the exact opposite.

That being said, the last bowl of CL I got was one from the new batches. It was in the smaller container and wasn't one of the hand cut chunks. I sold it almost immediately because I found that it didn't smell anywhere near as nice as the old version, and didn't lather as well either.

I believe Joe when he says that nothing has changed but the packaging, but I just wasn't a fan of the "new" version. Just doesn't do it for me.

That being said, my favorite Lavender scents would include

Mike's Hungarian Lavender
Martin de Candre
Older RR Chianti Lavender

I don't think I would like the sweeter version - I like the MdC fougere but do not like the QCS fougere as much since it smells very sweet to my nose. Any idea what would smell most like AoS Lavender aftershave balm? I'm guessing AoS soap but they won't ship to Canada!

Well, if you really want AoS Lavender, maybe you could put up a WTB on the BST. If that doesn't work, I'd be happy to run to AoS and mail whatever you want to Canada--just pay the product and shipping.

RR KL is very light and powdery smelling to me. Great performance, but not strong enough of a raw lavender scent for me.

AOS Lavender cream was much stronger and better smelling to my nose.

the KL WAX was found to be grapey/medicinal to my nose (as did many in my office when we passed it around for a sniff test).

I echo your sentiments on the MdC vs QCS Fougere as well.

I'm not really a balm fan, and the only AoS Lavender product I've ever used was their soap. It performed very well, but had this really gross clay scent in it that I couldn't tolerate.

I think it's a shame that Joe has decided to move away from the hand cut blocks. I don't mind the new containers, but they were just...better.

I don't buy soft soaps anymore so I haven't tried RR or MdC. My favorite Lavender soap is Harris, followed closely by Mikes.

Brucered is right on-I have both these products. I'll add that the King Louis soap has a more cologne type lavender scent - similar to TOBs.
Whereas a soap like Mikes's Hungarian Lavender has a nice, more natural, robust, EO type scent.
I do like the RR KL line alot, though.

You guys need to check out sterling soaps, All natural, a lot like Mikes, like $5.00 a puck? - crazy cheap. The Gen 5 take a little lathering time but the versions are supposed to be lathering quicker. I like the KL lavender but it is more artificial and you can feel it compared to sterling.

I shaved with RazoRock XXX today - same as ADP good god what a soap that was for the price, in my top 3.

That's a very generous offer, thanks! I just found out this morning that I will be driving through Cleveland in a couple of weeks and AoS has a store just off the I-271 bypass so I will check it out. If they have it in stock I should be good but the generous spirit of B&B members never fails to amaze me!!
