RazoRock La Famiglia Cumba Cheech Soap and ASB: First Impressions

So today I got my RR Cumba in the mail.
Naturally, I decided to try it right away!
I had read up on how to lather with softer Italian soaps like this, but in the back of my head always thought "what kind of crazy person would load a soft soap like this for 60 seconds?!"
So after soaking my Whipped Dog silvertip for a couple of minutes while I beard prepped, I shook out all the excess water so that I wouldn't overdo it, being my first attempt at lathering this soap. I loaded the brush by swirling it on the soap. I decided I would only load it for about 30 seconds and, sure enough, after about 15 seconds, lather starting to form in the bowl and spill over the sides. At this point I remembered some advice I was given: load the brush until lather starts to form in the bowl and then keep loading for another ten or so seconds. So that's what I did before transferring it to my bowl to whip up a lather.
I starting mixing for about 15-30 seconds before lather just started exploding from the brush! I hadn't even added any water yet! Whoever said this stuff was very easy to lather and would produce mounts of thick, creamy lather was sure on the money. I added a bit of water, mixed it up some more, got peak phase within 45 seconds. It was still a little dry, so I added some more water and kept mixing until it reached the consistency I wanted. At this point I was having a hard time containing the absurd amount of lather in my little bowl, it was practically spilling over the sides! I scooped it back into the bowl and brush, whipped a little longer to reach that two minute mark I find is good for most creams I've used, then loaded the brush with the lather and transferred it to my face.
It went on thick and smooth and provided one of the slickest, most cushioned shaves I've ever had! This stuff is a real winner, and the scent is pretty good too. It's fairly faint in the bowl, but you can really smell it once you start whipping up a lather.
After that I reached for the bottle of aftershave that came with it, same scent. The smell was identical and a little of it really does go a long way, I used the same amount I've used for Pre de Provence and it was way too much. The scent doesn't seem to have much staying power, as I shaved about 20 minutes ago and I already can't really smell it, so it's definitely cologne-friendly!
I think this one has definitely secured a permanent spot in my rotation.

Fantastic news stryker...I've got some yet unopened items of the same sitting on a shelf...have been meaning to bust them open...I'm sold!

Give it a go! If you load as long as I did, you might want to use a bit larger of a bowl. The volume of lather this stuff produces is absurd. I probably had enough to do four or maybe even five passes instead of my usual two.

Oh, and a note on the scent: nice orangey floral opening with a great spice backbone from the Jasmine. Very masculine despite maybe sounding less so due to the "orange blossom" part of the scent.

glad u liked it. I had the green leaf tobacco. Scent was great the first month but died out a bit. I gave it to my brother who wanted to try proraso soap in a tub and told him this was the same formula almost.
Personally I disliked it. I found my arko more pleasing on the shave on ATG. But maybe I never gave it a real shot after only 10 uses. Glad u enjoyed it tho.
it does build great lather and so easily. even with the hog monsters like my TGN finest brush.

I don't shave ATG. Too much irritation when I do, so I can't comment on the performance in that aspect. I definitely agree that it's great with lather hogs. The brush I used is definitely a lather hog and even with only loading it for ~25s I got more lather than I could have ever used on one shave.

I convinced my best friend to buy some AOS lavender soap, although he seems to be a dedicated cream guy. When I told him "lavender" I could see he turned his nose up, although his expression didn't change. He smelled my puck of AOS lavender, and his eyes widened. He had never imaged a floral scent that could be masculine. It's a funny ol' worl', innit?

I just bought this soap and the matching ASB on the BST section, and can't wait to get it. I was excited simply reading the scent description, and now I'm even more so! Unfortunately, I will probably have to wait 1.5 to 2 weeks for it to arrive, I live in Cambodia!

Sounds like a great scent. I've used Don Marco and loved the lather, kinda indifferent to the smell. I will have to give this version a try now.

When Joe first introduced the La Famiglia line, I bought all 4 of the croaps and the Nonno Michelino and Don Marco ASBs too. Still kicking myself for not getting the Cumba Cheech and Zi Peppino ASBs at that time also.

All of them work exceptionally well. Cumba Cheech smells the best IMHO though.
