You could be right NSmalls! We shall see how many more show
I wanted XXX so bad... It was hard to resist. But, I knew Joe would have it for awhile, and, I'm not much on doubling up on stuff so I decided I must finish my original tub first. I was being very stingy with it, now, I may give it the 3017 treatment!
Time for me to be an enabler too... but I think you should buy XXX v2.0 a little before you finish the original so that you can have a couple back-to-back days of comparison. But I suppose it doesn't really matter as the old is gone so it doesn't really matter if it smells/performs better/worse/or the same.
It kind of boils down to my own curiosity of the effect of tallow. Some swear by it, some avoid it. But this would give a good opportunity to compare the difference with as many other factors as possible being kept constant.
You need the new XXX. Sorry.
Actually I'm pretty interested in doing a comparison between old and new XXX. I think the old one is fantastic

Some grades of badger are way scritchier than boar. In fact, most good boar brushes are way softer in the tips than even the high end badgers. I agree, badgers do not break in much, but they do break in some. Not is tip softness, but more in loosening up the knot in general. Only takes a few shaves for a badger to really come into its own. Boars have to have split ends before they start to shine. Fortunately, there are numerous techniques out there that work for accelerating boar bristle break in. My SOC SE, which has the same knot as Amici was able to be broken in to some degree before shave one. I used one of the numerous techniques out there and on the first shave the knot had a good number of split boar ends. The Mixed knot in question has some scritch to it and I think it comes from badger, at least partially. It is my opinion that some scritch will remain in this brush always. This will be the badger scritch. Once the boar bristles break in the knot will feel significantly softer in tips and dilute some of the badger scritch. It's interesting that Semogue's two band finest badger is scritchy. My own two band brushes that are all TGN knots are almost scritch-free. Just goes to show you there is always variation in the hair type from manufacturer to manufacturer. In any case, the SOC SE and my newly arrived #18/100 Barbear Classico Mistura, which is a Semogue mixed brush with a slightly smaller knot than the Amici are really a joy to use, but I do enjoy a bristle feel on my face, so YMMV.
Have fun with the Amici, it has a great knot that needs to be experienced.

The Amici brush is well balanced. The handle has a good amount of weight to it. It is pretty stiff too, so it will maul any soap into submission. Remember, this is my first boar/badger mix.
