I haven't posted a pic of mine yet....

When I learned about Amici it was too late. I contacted Joe and he said they were all spoken for with a healthy waiting list. So I bought the SOC SE (about the same money) and I am very happy. I am a big fan of SOC and 1305-type Semogue handles, so SOC SE is very much to my liking. It absolutely devours soaps, has a great face feel (I like a bit of scrub and am fan of bar brushes) and is so comfortable in hand. Excellent brush and I highly recommend it to anyone who has missed out on Amici.

Agreed. They are quite similar.

That's because it is not a badger brush. It is 50% badger and 50% boar. boar bristles take a lot longer to dry since they actually absorb a little water into the shaft. Badgers do not do that and basicaly the only water is between the hairs. Also, if your Amici is anything like my SOC SE (and I believe it is the same knot), the the density of the brush is a very good reason for drying slower. Still, can not compare drying time of a badger to that of a mixed loft. HAve you ever used a boar brush? They definitely take longer to dry than badgers.

That's good to know. So, a boar brush would not be the best choice for a travel brush. I have tried synthetic brushes, but didn't like the feel, too stiff. Maybe a small badger, like a Simpson Special, would be good for travel?

I took it to disney world for a week I just didn't shave the morning I left.

I'm traveling with it at the moment. Taking badgers on the road is a little easier because of the nature of the hair, but I haven't had any issues as long as I've used a drying technique I read about somewhere on these forums: after rinsing the soap out of the knot, I lightly shake out most of the water and then brush 10-20 circles clockwise and counter-clockwise onto a towel, then go 10-20 times up and down. After that, the knot is fairly dry and will completely dry out (even standing on its base) within a few hours.

The person in question had many brushes that he used this technique on and found no difference in longevity between ones that were left to dry on their base or upside down. So as long as I towel dry my brushes, I don't bring a stand on the road anymore.

Happy trails.

#81 is in the house!!!!!

Really looking forward to trying it out. At first I was on the fence about the handle but it feels great in the hand.

I've been using my Amici regulary. No less than every second shave, actually. Have you all noticed how this monster eats soaps? Especially the artisan soft soaps that we pretty much all have?

Admittedly, I am a heavy loader. I end up with more lather than I need, but none of my brushes beats up my soaps like the Amici. It's...impressive.

Oh yea, totally! I'm really trying to work through a couple soaps to actually accomplish that difficult task called finishing one! I turn to the Amici to accomplish this as it really does kick serious soap ***. Funny thing though, it works that way, meaning it doesn't feel like a heavy loading making ridiculous quantities of lather. Its just right.

Amici = Molto bene!

Yep, it's something to behold..

The Amici is DESTROYING the Valobra croap I've been traveling with for the last week. In 7 shaves, I've used about one fifth of the block (an ounce). And this is loading for less than 30 seconds each time.

#23 arrived this week.

I have 3 test lathers and 5 shaves on my Amici and I am still feeling a significant amount of scritch...it is borderline uncomfortable. I face-lather so I feel it for a significant longer time compared to bowl lathering. I have owned boar brushes in the past so I know it gets better - I will be doing an extensive amount of test/break-in lathers with this knot. I am just surprised at the initial amount of scritch compared to my B&B Essentials and Omega 31064.

Update:

I have "used" the Amici in some form or fashion everyday since I received it. It has logged the equivalent of ~27 shaves - several from myself, my SWMBO (I know, I know...), and test lathers when not on shaving duty. With that said, the brush is breaking in very, very nicely. There is still some minor/medium amount of scritchiness but it is nowhere near the amount of when the brush was new. I can see where the additional softness is developing from as quite a bit of the boar bristles are splitting many times over. I am even more confident that the scritch will continue to settle down. In addition, I am very happy that the knot is maintaining its wonderful backbone.

I look forward to this brush progressively getting better and better.

I used my Amici this morning with Speick stick after reading about how well it lathers soap sticks. All I can say is WOW! I rubbed the stick on my face, like I've done plenty of times and went at it with the brush (after soaking and shaking out most of the water). I got thick lather in seconds.

The considerable scritch that was in the brush initially is now completely gone and the Amici is rather soft on the face. This is a great brush!!!!!!!!
