Razorburn/Ingrowns/Neck acne/General irritation a thing of the past - Weleda AS Balm

This stuff is amazing...I've been using it for only 4 days, but...let me back up a bit:

I've had an ongoing problem with my lower neck area (right where my beard ends), with a seemingly never ending series of pimples and ingrown hairs popping up. I've always had a bit of irritation in that area, to the point where when I was still shaving with a cartridge, I was only shaving once a week, but at least was generally okay. At one point I tried out an electric razor so I could shave more often, which exacerbated the problem, and since then it's been really bad.

I switched up to DE shaving, but the problem has continued, albeit a lessened a bit. I've ordered some Captain's Choice Lime Aftershave in the hopes that the alcohol and organic ingredients would help me out...while I was waiting for it to arrive (due next week), I stopped by the local organic grocery and picked up a bottle of the Weleda (at a steep price - $28!!, but I've been getting more desperate) AS Balm.

I really wanted to see what it felt like on my face, so after washing up that night, I put some on. Decent smell. Nice feel.

Next morning, I noticed that my neck area was looking improved...hmm. After my shave, more Weleda goes on...by noon, there was a very noticeable improvement - I had an ingrown that was disappearing, some red marks that were fading, and a bit of razor burn that literally had vanished. That evening, again the Weleda went on, and next morning my neck was looking terrific. Feeling great too.

I don't know what the ingredient is in this stuff that is making the big difference, but wow! I wonder what I'm going to do with the CC's Lime that's coming next week. I want to try it, but I'm afraid to wreck the momentum that I've got going here.

From their website:

"Organic jojoba seed oil absorbs quickly to protect your skin without leaving an oily film. Biodynamic[SUP]®[/SUP] aloe is rich in vitamins, minerals and enzymes that nourish and soothe razor burn. Myrrh has mild antiseptic and astringent properties that calm small shaving wounds. Your face feels soft, smooth and relaxed. Now that your close shave is no longer a close call for razor burn, you can go on being as smooth as your clean-cut face."

The myrrh part is intriguing. People have been using it for thousands of years, must have some good properties of some sort.

What kind of scent does Weleda have? I've got similar neck issues, and Nancy Boy is doing a fairly acceptable job at this point but something else is always fun to try.

It's kind of citrus. My wife said I smelt a bit like lifesavers...lime. I think it's a bit spicier than sweet though. Not cloying, that's for sure.

To my nose it has a citrus scent, at first and then chamomile kicks in. Lemon and Chamomile. It is my current AS balm and I like it.

Thanks for the info--looks like Merz in Chicago stocks it--I will be taking a drive....tomorrow or next Saturday to Merz to pick some up!

Weleda is good stuff. I nearly always use a splash, but if I were a balm guy Weleda would be a regular in my rotation.

Wouldn't the shaving process and tools have more of an impact on ingrown hairs (i.e. the cause of ingrown hairs) versus a post-shave repair product? How does an AS help prevent ingrown hairs?

How is the quality of Weleda shave cream?

I think it may depend on if you are prone to them or not. Really, it's the act of shaving, not necessarily the tools, that are the root cause. All I know is that this product is not only making my skin heal post shave, but helping even when I'm not shaving.

If you're looking for something less expensive I use Nivea quite regularly and it helps the irritation razor bumps a lot. My problem area is the base of my neck as well although I think not quite to the degree your issue was. I need to be extremely cautious about my technique in this area or it's burn city and ingrown hair galore.

The more I use this balm the more I like it.
I know why:

Water (Aqua), Alcohol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Glycerin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Glyceryl Linoleate, Chamomilla Recutita Matricaria (Chamomile) Flower Extract, Commiphora Myrrha (Myrrh) Extract, Sodium Beeswax, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan), Xanthan Gum, Fragrance (Parfum)*, Limonene*, Linalool*, Geraniol*, Citral*, Coumarin*, Farnesol* .
* from natural essential oils

Expensive though. It is the only shaving product I know that has the expiry date on the container.
I highly recommend this AS.

Thanks everyone. I managed to get a sample from another source and have been using it all week. Worked a treat so far. Will decide what I'm keeping from my current collection and once I have space I'll be buying a bottle. Amazon looks like it's the best price for it.
