Razor Rotation

O.K. I am a new DE wet shaver. Finally saw the light and switched over from an electric shaver. I have read many posts about people having a razor rotation. Is there a reason for this. Why do you use more than one. Why have a razor rotation. Just trying to learn. Thanks.

The reason most of us have a rotation is simply because something called RAD "razor acquisition disorder" kicks in and we have this overwhelming desire to collect razors. Of course we all have favorites but why not enjoy them all.

Many folks like the look and feel of different razors, and rather than have them sit in a dusty cabinet, we put them into a "rotation" so we get to experience the differing ways that these razors feel in the hand and on the face, and the way they shave.
A razor rotation is not necessary, and no one specifically reccomends it per se - it's just a shame to let beautiful pieces of equipment sit without use!

Personally, I like to use up a blade in a razor (usually about 4 shaves) and then rotate to a new razor, new blade. When I get all the way through my rotation, I break out the cleaning supplies and do a thorough cleaning on all of them. Then I start all over again.

Personally I collect razors, and enjoy the history. I enjoy their unique shaves, and I love being able to choose a razor based on my mood. For me, I don't have any reason as far as getting a better shave, just for personal enjoyment.

One downside to using a rotation is it ups the number of razor blades you have. Different razors work best with different blades. Techs work with Feathers best, My HD works best with Lord Extras, My 49 SS with Gillette Sharpedges. My Aristocrat and Red Tip with any forgiving blade but I want a forgiving blade thats also sharp enough for tough stubble. Then there are my Single Edge razors which require Gem blades. If you enjoy a certain razor/blade combo you naturally buy a 100 blades so you have enough , you don't want to run out. It gets overcomplicated.
