Razor restoration

I just purchased two antique razors and was wondering a good way to clean corrosion off of a straight without damaging the blade on it.

This is the Gillette I think its a super speed not sure though.

That Gillette is a Red Tip Superspeed and is a wonderful shaver. Looks like it will clean up nicely.

Give the Gillette Red Tip Super-Speed a few squirts with scrubbing bubbles and scrub with a tooth brush, polish it up with maas if you'd like.

The str8, the only way I know of is to polish it it but I'll let the str8 pro's weigh in on this.

On a razor I was given from my Uncle, I mixed up simplegreen with water and let it soak a few hours prior to gently burshing with a soft toothbrush.

Whatever you do, try MAAS. Just used it on my recently added 61 Fatboy and the thing went from a dull tarnished meh to a very bright woo hoo!!! It did take some time with a dremel and maas but it was worth it. Just when using an electric polisher be careful not to burn through the thin plating.

I'd like to know the correct way of cleaning up old safety razors myself. for my Old Type I used some brasso, a soft bristled toothbrush and paper towel. however, I don't know if using an abrasive is good or bad. for my flaretip, super adjustable and lady gillette I just used a toothbrush and scrubbed them under hot soapy water. i'm especially interested on how to properly clean gold plated/brass safety razors. are there any tutorials floating around?

I generally start with scrubbing bubbles or the like, repeating if necessary, then a dip in Barbicide, and polish with Flitz which is similar to Maas. If you really want to go hog wild, you could repaint the red tip if that's your thing. I hear there is a nearly identical paint match that works. I believe it's International Harvester Red, but check to be sure. Some don't like to paint as it's then not original.

Whats mass?

MAAS is a pricey but effective metal polish.

Checked on it, runs $30 at my local hardware store. I never tried it because of the cost, but Flitz is a similar prodoct for about 1/3 of the cost.

I personally prefer Mother's Wheel Polish with the Powerball. (OK, not for razors but for polishing other metal items and wheels).

Blue Magic is another inexpensive alternative. Sold in auto stores. Works like.... like..... well, like Magic.

$30 for Maas!?!? My tube was only 8-9 dollars.
