Razor Rest

I've been looking for a soft surface to rest my razors on while shaving. Since I'm a fan of BookRug bookmarks and MouseRug mouse pads, I had the idea to try out a CoasterRug coaster for this purpose. All of these products are based on classic carpet designs from Persia, India, Africa, Asia, etc., as well as on some traditional American designs, all colorful and interesting. I went for the Pazyryk Rug, based on a rug found in a burial mound in Siberia dating from the 5th century B.C.E. -- the world's oldest known rug, according to the product description. The underside of the coaster is rubberized, which I hope will work well on a wet bathroom counter surface.

I'm no expert, but wouldn't the condensation from your wet razor/ or residue from shave soap (or) cream- potentially cause mildew in this fine little carpet? I love the idea however.

I suppose that's possible. But they're washable, and can be steam-cleaned. Maybe an occasional spray of Scrubbing Bubbles or rug cleaner would help avoid mildew. Will let you know how it goes.

Yeah it seems like it would need constant care or a lot of replacing?

Looks really cool though. I don't use a mouse pad now but I want one of those!

I have the ancient map of the world (Typus Orbis Terrarum) mouse pad, and it's great. Nice and soft under the wrist. The Fiber-lok material these products are made of is extremely durable, so I'm hoping that they won't be very high-maintenance. Time will tell.

That's a neat idea, but it wouldn't work for me. Whenever I shave, I end up getting water all over the counter around the sink. I'd have that thing soaked in no time.

Me too. I call cart and goo wet shaving, this is mess shaving, but I love it. Also, what are those fine looking razors?

Toothpick

Needs milk and a bidet!
thats pretty cool, but to be honest i'm more interested in the black razor! what kind, and where from? i want a black razor!

Weber handle, FaTip head (I believe) custom coated in Ceramax... by Dave from West Coast Shaving (corrected - originally wrote "WCS", which is not correct. I leave it here because of later posts which point out the correction). (I'm not the OP, they're not my razors, I just... have lusted after them on other threads!) They're good because you give off no glint when shaving behind enemy lines!

That black one is rediculous! Just awesome man!

I like the rug idea. I usually use a washcloth folded in half on the side of the sink. Works well, keeps the counter from getting scratched in any way from the de blade sticking out the side if the razor and its a great tool for cleaning up the counter when I'm finished.

Fixed that for you. West Coast Razors (WCR) is not West Coast Shaving (WCS), they're two different vendors. Made the same mistake myself early on.

Yes, both razors are Fatip heads and Weber Bulldog handles. Dave at WCR calls the black coating "ceracoat"; I'm not sure which proprietary product he uses to do it (Cerakote? Ceracoat?). One member has called it "evil-looking". I call it Black Beauty (although I'm reconsidering this, to avoid confusion with the Gillette vintage razor known by that nickname). The other razor is plated in 24k gold. Both are great Fatip-Weber shavers.

Another good point. But I'm not planning to coddle this pad. If it works, it works; if not -- I have a set of coasters. :biggrin1:

Magic Carpet Ride will be the ear worm of the day

Oh, yeah!
