It sure looks like a Milord. Now that I'm looking at it, the piece right above the TTO knob on the Milord is smooth, and yours is knurled.
ok...read this link http://theshaveden.com/forums/threa...ess-info-you-probably-dont-need-to-know.8468/Hmmm okay, now I'm more confused! lol
I'll put up some more pics.
Very interesting!
Do you guys have an idea of how much these go for in decent shape? This one seems to be in at least above average, if not a little better.
Ok, heres a tid bid, bout 1940s Super Speed production, due tothe Korean war they replace nickel plating with gold plating and renamed the razor. It became the Milord. This used up lotof brass for making artillery shells that there was a shortage of brass in 1951 and 1952 which was the worst America ever had. This hit Gillette especially as their razors were mostly nickel plated brass.
I was referring to the 2 Blacktips/Super speeds made out of aluminum due to the shortage of brass in 50's because of the Korean conflict. I should have been more concise. The replacing of the gold plating from nickel is what led to the Milord model.Wait, what? The whole Korean War brass shortage had nothing to do with the nickel and gold plating. The gold-plated Milord Tech came out in 1940 before the nickel-plated Ranger Tech/Super Speed line started in 1941 -- before WWII, let alone Korea. That actually seems to have been Gillette's strategy during the early TTO era: Make the higher-end versions of the new model available and follow up later with the lower-end offering. The Sheraton was out the year before the Senator, and the Milord Tech was out the year before the Ranger Tech.
What you've got there, gobeavs, looks to me to be a 1948-49 Milord. The notched center bar tells me that it's no earlier than 1948, and the flat collar around the center post and the fact that the inscription reads "PAT. NOS. ON PACKAGE" indicate that it's not later than 1949.
