razor i.d. help please

Hey guys.

I picked this razor up at an estate sale yesterday. Wondering if you guys can shed some light on it.

It's a Gillette, A-2 date code, and gold.

If the knurling above the knob is rough its a Diplomat. If its smooth, an Aristocrat.

Hmmm. Well it seems like it feels like the rest of the handle, so rough I guess.

Is that the only difference between those two?

That's pretty much the only difference.

With an A-2 date code, it's almost definitely a Diplomat.

I got it yesterday for a buck and used it this morning after spiffing it up. Was a great shave!

either way its a great razor!! the aristocrat/diplomat/president is my favorite design both functionally and in appearance

Not to rub it in, but I got a 1950 super speed and a lady gillette that are both in pretty good shape for a buck a piece too!

I've already got a SS, so I'm going to work on trading that and the lady gillette also.

I think I've decided to keep the diplomat though. I would trade it off too, but after this morning I don't think I can. It was seriously the best shave I've had in a long time!
