Razor head problem?

I've had a couple of shaves with my single ring, and they haven't been very pleasant. I avoided bloodshed on the second shave, but it wasn't a pleasant. I looked at the head, and noticed what may be the problem. It appears each corner may be dinged. These dings seem to be raising the cap above the blade. I looked at my other razors, one ABC is the same, another ABC and my ball end razors do not have the dings, so the cap fits tighter to the comb.

So, I guess my questions are:

Are those dings normal?

Could they explain my bad experiences?

Should I file the dings off?

Thanks in advance,
paul.

Paul, do you have any pictures as the dings should not be affecting the shave and it just may be the razor is not suited to you or the blade that you are using. However, this is just a possibility until you can show the pics.

Paul, I've recently acquired a single ring myself, and I'm in the same boat as you. I think a lot of it is because the blades available when the single ring came out only had three holes, a slack the slot that modern blades have. Modern blades don't fit in the single ring perfectly square unless you're very careful. I cut my neck to ribbons last time I used it, but got BBS the time before.

Sorry for the delay, here's a pic of what I was referring to. $SingleRing.jpg

Do I have a problem with my single ring head? Should I file off the burrs in the pic?

thanks,
Paul.

Likely it was dropped once or twice. The old type caps seem to have been somewhat prone to that problem, and this looks like a particularly bad example. Filing might work, but if you think it has much collectible value then I would be tempted to find another razor.

So, I filed off the burrs, and gave the razor another shot today. It went much better this time, no bloodshed, some minor burning, but a very clean shave. I don't know if my previous experience has made me skittish, but his razor feels different than the others I've tried. It is very noisy, and seems to have more blade visible. Is it just my imagination? The noise may be attributable to the soap I was using too, my second try with Caswell-Masey, I can get a lather, but there is no glide at all. I'll try something I know is slick next time..
