Rawson Bros Sheffield

Hi All, wondering if anyone has any info on this razor I've come across, can only find very little information about it on Google, and nothing on this forum when using search. Mostly interested in the age of it, and if there is any interesting history behind it. Thanks for any replies!

Rattlers are a precursor to the modern hollow ground razors. From memory, I think they were ground from the spine to the edge, rather than from the heel to the toe, but I might have that wrong. As for age, it's probably prior to 1880, so yes a very old razor.

Here is a thread discussing this more:-

Thanks for the info aussie! I managed to dig up a bit more info about the company on Google, going by this, it states that the cockerel logo was assigned in 1875, and the fact that it only has Sheffield stamped on it, leads me to believe it was made prior to 1891, when England would have been required to be stamped on it.

Haven't purchased it yet, but it's still up for sale and I'm tempted to buy it. Had my heart set on a Wade and Butcher Barber's Rattler made pre-1900, but haven't seen many for sale and they are quite a bit more expensive than this one. I've got a Dovo Bismarck, so I'm familiar with using straight razors, although haven't used it for a while since having a beard for a while, and getting back into shaving now.
