Rare 4-Piece Gillette

stay away from this seller - I have had some experience with him.

caveat emptor

of course - this is only my opinion and I do not want to suggest that there is knowing deception occurring, nor do I intend to prevent an honest person from making a living selling rarities.

So, my 1921 NewImproved has only 3 parts. Who knows about the history of the 4 piece? Guido?
And what's with the handle being a different finish than the head? Is this a frankenrazor or just replated or.........????????

I believe the implication is that 4-piece Gillette razors are in fact broken 3-piece Gillette razors.

Someone actually called him out on that at the bottom of the listing:

"Q: Hello. Your razor was not built with four pieces; it is a broken three piece razor. Best. pawncash. Feb-04-10
A: I feel you must have a great deal of information that no one else has. This can not be a 3 piece razor. The handle is almost 4" long and it does not have a broken anything. If you can prove otherwise, I would like you to do so. Check Krumholz Gillette Collectors Handbook page 121 known as THE BIG FELLOW. Thanks for the question. Doug"

The seller may be narrowly correct: I don't think this is a broken three-piece. To me it looks like two parts each from two broken three-piece razors.

What an answer! Direct them to a book that will prove himself wrong.
Razor isn't the only thing made of brass.

I was awake and bored. Sent the Seller this
This is not a 4 piece (and there never were 4 piece Big Fellows). The Big Fellow is a 3 piece (I have 7 of them). The blade base you show makes this from the New Deluxe family (the most common for a Big Fellow). The fact that the head is gold while the handle is Silver means these parts are not from the same razor. I'd put the parts value here at around $20 tops (incl shipping) though I would not be interested. And I've paid more than $100 each for a few of my Big Fellows.
Whadaya want to bet that one doesn't make his ad :wink2:.

ETA: Correction to New Improved above, sent correction to Seller.

Oh crap, and here I went and mis-spoke!:mad3: I said New Deluxe when I meant to say New Improved (thanks Highball for the PM pointing out my mistake :thumbup1:).

I'd just read a thread that mentioned a New Deluxe, that and carelessness are my only excuses. I suspect the Seller is guilty of worse than that :glare:.

I em'd the seller....his response: Thanks for your response, but this razor is a 4 piece razor. The threaded shaft is on the cap piece of the razor and the bottom most piece is threaded and free to turn to adjust the blade angle. It was only made for a short time. Thanks.

guess we are all mistaken!!!!!:lol::lol::lol:

This seller does this kind of thing a lot. He was right about one thing, it was made for only a short time. Five minutes or less to be sure.

I received this exact same response when I emailed him "You really have no idea what kind of razor this is, do you?"
